Guys,
I am thinking of replacing the Boxster 986 with a 987. But I have an underlying itch for a 911. What other forum's do you 911 owners use besides thia one ? I need to do plenty of research before committing.

That really depends on how old the 911 you're after :-)

I'm thinking max £30k which would get me a O9/10 PDK Boxster. A 911 would probably be 05/06 ish? I need to get away from the 986/987 engine problems. Althopugh I have had no problems in three years with the 986 there is always an underlying niggle.

The 987.2 appears, so far, to be fairly "safe" - no significant reports of the premature coking that some makers have had with DFi. And if you want to even avoid that, pick the 2.9 which doesn't have it.

You may find the relevant forum on the Porsche Club GB website useful.

I've found the 964RS forum invaluble, although the SC forum was much quieter help was there if you asked.

Was around 2009. Bare in mind if purpose of your move is to get away from potential engine issues the 997.1 is not the way to go.

Can you tell me when the 997 gen2 came out and what physical differences there are without asking for the documentation.

Daytime running lights on the front, different shaped rear lights and a black centre console instead of a grey one. They are your pointers.

That and a 2009+ plate.

Or buy a 2005-6, save about 10k and stick a Porsche warranty on it, then worry no more about engine failures.

This months GT Porsche has a decent overview of all the 997 carrera models as a buyers guides - pick that up as a good intro, it's well balanced and pretty informative.

The Gen 2 cars have different bumpers, day time running lights and different shape rear lights (the inside bottom corner is cut off and they're LED). Interior has the different media unit - its black, with a bigger touch screen.

Between a Boxster and 911? Go drive them, others opinions are only that, the opinion of others, you need to form yours. I prefer the way a 911 drives, but many oers prefer a Boxster or Cayman.

Thanks Paul O and csnith319 some good advice and pointers there. I'm hoping to get to drive a 911 tomorrow, so will be able to compare it to a Boxster.

Make that 08 plate for C2 and C2S.
