Hi Guys
Got myself a 996 3.6 and after a spirited 5 mins when you stop and get out theres a hot engine smell for a briefish period. Its not oil or coolant wiffs and it doesn't use any of either.I know its a daft question as all engines get hot but is this a standard thing on them.
No other issues other than that really,

Silencers right by the tyres help produce the smells.

The first time the wife had been out in the car we parked up and as we walked away....

Her: Is your car meant to smell like that ?

Me: Yes. It is the smell of awesome.

biggrin

I love the various Porsche smells that come from my 993.

The best is the burnt oily smell that comes through the heater! Crazy I know, but its just so '911'.

Ditto, ever been around light at craft? You get the same, plus a strange affinity with the controls & dials.

Agreed, its a 911 smell!

I had it from my 964 10 years ago and I have it again from my 997 now. Frankly I was surprised at first (always suspected it was a leaky engine in the 964) but nicely reassured soon after. Its all part of the 911 experience! smile

Wonder if the 991s do this too?

I remember when I got my 996, dropped in to Porsche Bournemouth only to be fleeced out of £50 for them to put it on a ramp and tell me it was fine.

I now know that it is the mufflers and all part of the fun (have never been back to that garage).

911 smell indeed... Both my 997 and my 991 have had it. Like you, first time I freaked out

The 996 smell isn't that pleasant. I do, however, linger in my garage for a couple of minutes after reversing in the SC. The smell of un-catalysed fumes and warm oil is pretty special. Reminds me of the paddocks at Goodwood FoS.

Rubbish, you get it on Caymans too. The silencers are close to the tyres in the same way, hot metal and hot rubber - lovely.

Clearly you need to try a little harder.
