I attach a printout from an OPC for work done to my 997C4S. Unfortunately, I don't understand what it means! Please can someone translate it for me into recognisable English?!

Thanks

Looks to me like they removed the engine, disassembled it, removed gearbox, replaced something relating to the auto box drive plate / torque converter and they reassembled everything with new shiny case, screws, gaskets and rings and presented you with what I suspect is an eye watering bill! smile

ETA: added case following pete's note below!

Blimey - it's had a whole new crank case (997.101.001.06)! Full engine rebuild? Can't have been cheap...

So is that like a new short engine? Or is a full engine rebuild something else?
Will I have a new engine number now?

Reads like the engine was disassembled (after removing from the car) and reassembled.

Not sure what was replaced that was replaced simply due to the disassembly and what was replaced because it was bad.

The tech should be able to tell you what was replaced and why. Ask him.

He should say crankcase, crank, main bearings or bearing, rods or rod, rod bearings or bearing, pistons or piston. Something like that. Oh, and what cylinder or cylinders were affected.

Make notes and post here for feedback/comment.

Your engine has been rebuilt to remedy a bore scoring issue; 1 piston has been replaced (the rest have been reused). The labour has been charged as it appears on the invoice as the system splits operations up to enable various jobs to be grouped together depending on the task completed (it would be easier to just type 'rebuild engine in accordance with manufacturers workshop manual instructions' but the Warranty department don't like that). Check the online parts catalogue available on Porsche's website to ID the parts used but essentially
Every seal and gasket and certain bolts/fixings will have been replaced. For starters, the crankcase set is approx 3.5k.......

It's been un-flanged and then re-flanged.....

Don't know what this means but it sounds painful biggrin

Hope it's ok now and that it was all covered under warranty.

This work was done under warranty at 26,000 miles. The car is now at 60,000 miles and I wondered if the OPC had carried out any work that might be seen as preventing bore scoring occurring again?

If Porsche produce an engine that has a tendency to fail do they rebuild the engine to replicate the original (chocolate) engine or do they build in some improvements/modifications?

I am hoping that someone on here will be able to look at the parts list and let me know the answer to the above question.

You wish! Sadly not - back to the original spec that failed.

OPC makes more profit from a re-build?

Why wouldn't they take the opportunity modify the engine to rectify the weakness? Or maybe there is no simple solution?

These cars do not have any weaknesses, there is nothing to rectify.

The economics of it won't have been worth it for them, simple as that. Hartech however, have done lots of research and carry out modifications when they do rebuilds. Besides trying to deal with the cause by fitting low temp 'stats and opening up oil/coolant channels internally they're even looking at (or may have already used) different bore coatings.
