Last one is really lame.

Some used to have plates that go blank when flashed but were easily noticeable to the boys in blue.

Not worth it imo

All have 1 problem.

If you are stopped, they can be seen easily if the police look round the car.

Which they will, if they have just seen something "odd" happen as you drove past.

Much less heavy consequences just to have no plates at all.

This could be seen as PCOJ.

Also have to take into consideration how they operate under high speed and how quick they can change.

Not worth the risk as you'll have your pants pulled down if caught!

A friend got 9 months for PCOJ over a number plate infringement - not worth it IMHO?

Less of an issue just running with no front plate, as no points and only a very small fine.

I thought you got points for having no front number plate?

Nope,

But you would for a small or miss spaced plate.

How strange...might rip mine off! wink

(mrdemon, CR might have to go, giving it a few weeks to see because it is a complex decision; get that other motor sent back wink)

I don't think you can get points for a over small or mis spaced plate.

Don't really understand the purpose of these. If you're trying to hide it from a camera then you'd need to hit the button before driving through the camera. But if you see the camera in time to hit the button, why not just slow down? The alternative is just leaving the plate invisible at all times, in which case you'd get pulled immediately.

Finally if it's just to obscure the plate whilst you're parked up, I'm not sure if it's legal to cover up the plate whilst you're parked in a public place, so you'll get in bother if cops see you doing that.

In fact, the only useful thing I can conceive of is if you wanted to cover your plate when you were on a trackday or club meet and didn't want people there to know your plate. But there's much cheaper/easier ways to achieve that.

So can anyone set out what you'd use these for - even hypothetically? Is it really so you can bomb towards a speed camera, see it in enough time to hit the button, and then sail through the flashes with an obscured plate instead of temporarily slowing down?

This is a deliberate act of concealment with the intention of perverting the course of justice. Also if you are involved with someone else in doing it, it would be a conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. Both are criminal acts and if you are found out you could go to prison.

Fine (up to 1k) and possible withdrawal of your plate if private, but no points involved

Usually an FPN and given a notice to prove you no whave a legal plate

Many years ago, was there not a spray can item that you just sprayed on your no plate.

When the camera went off, it was just blank I used to see adverts etc, even at car show for the product.

Let's just say that one of my other cars is a Hilux. A vehicle which is generally driven on uncluttered roads as all other traffic is behind.

I commuted on a motorbike for three years with a smaller-than-legal rear plate, and I've got a smaller-than-legal front plate on my 996. I've never been pulled for either, but then I don't drive like a d**k and give them a real reason to pull me....
