Dealer has just discovered this is a Cat C (apparently) so has just reduced it to £10,995 and is open to offers. Any thoughts?

At that price it's defo worth a look! Just needs checking over properly.

Could be a bargain, could be a money pit.

Threads like this make me think I under-valued my C4 when I sold it (summer 2011). Admittedly higher mileage (185k miles) but with top end rebuild at 120k, RUF suspension, fairly recent brakes / clutch, very good condition (but worn driver seat bolster). Non Cat-c, and I sold it for £12,500 I think.

C4s do go cheaper than C2s by a fair margin as far as I can see. Not sure I'd rush to pay that for a Cat-C C4 unless it was exceptional in every other way.

Same here, I wouldn't be racing to buy it..

Also ref the £12500.00 you got for your C2. I haven't come across many that are getting asking unless exceptional. 12.5K is a little under (I would say by about 1.5K). But at least you sold it.

I think at this price, this 964 is worth a look. You can always walk away.

Ad says "driver's airbag" when it's clearly got the original 4-spoke wheel.

Are you sure? It looks like the airbag wheel to me, although it's tricky to tell from the photo angle.

I just think your asking for trouble.

Just save up a bit more money.

You'll always sell a nice car however bad the market gets.

The cat C date is actually interesting. In 2001, it wouldn't take that much damage to make it Cat C. But it's long enough ago that it's possible it's not a dog as someone (or people) has owned it for 12 years.

Of course even assuming it's not a dog, being a cat C it's hateful when you have to sell on again.

But it's just price...
If it was for sale from a dealer for 13,995 without them knowing it was Cat C, then 10,995 is not enough of a drop.

Thought process...
But would I buy it for £1000 if it checked out? Yes. So there's the range. Would I pay 8k for a decent example at 89k miles apart from it being Cat C? Possibly. 4k? yes, 6k almost certainly, 7k, yes, probably. 9k? dunno. 8k, possibly.

There ya go, I'd pay 8k if it checked out. And if I decided I wanted it standing there, 8.5 or 8995!

See how easy a buyer I am!

Decent 964s aregoing for well in excess of the 14k you suggest

And for a manual C2 with decent history it would be extremely low, and many good ones selling for more than that dont even make the general market

Standard wheel, certainly no airbag

Quite so, its the 185K mileage that would restrict its price. I'm not saying that's correct, it personally wouldn't bother me for example, but I've not seen many that went much above 14K with that mileage, and that needed work on the interior.

185k,just imagine if it needed an engine overhaul. Have just been reading about Johnny Tiplers peppermint pig engine rebuild in 911 world and he said he spent £20K!!!!!!! Jings thats a lot of money to spend on old pork!

Except that it had an engine overhaul 65k miles ago - which I suspect most 964s under 100k haven't had.

Not sure I would bother with the cat c C4 at that price. Might be worth a punt at a grand less if it was a C2 to turn into a track car IMO.

....and yes Dave you sold yours too cheap (considering the money and time you put in to it) but then again, you sold it to a friend and consequently gave them a good deal IIRC? wink

Much the same as my thinking. If I had the time to see it this weekend and an inspection revealed no nasties I would make an offer. It will probably be gone next weekend

That's an impressive valuation logic you have there, having not seen or inspected it!

My C2 Targa 'sold' last year for £13,500 (deposit was paid but I pulled out as I couldn't let it go & returned the money) so talk of Coupes being valued at less than this makes little sense to me.

OP. If that Cat C car inspects well then £10,000 is not too much money.

That's because you didn't see Appendix B of my post MTR which is my definition of "checks out ok" biggrin

And AC did you go to see it?
