991 GT3 numbers
Discussion
The one bit of information that seems to be missing in all the specs that have been given for the new GT3 is the proposed production run.
One of the reasons that earlier GT3's has held their value comparatively well is that they were only produced in very limited numbers (eg less than 170 997.2 GT3 registrations in the UK). If the new model is going to be produced in greater numbers the retained value is going to fall - look at the depreciation on recent 911's which were produced in relatively large numbers.

Much like the 997 cars, it'll be produced in as many numbers as they can find people to order them.
So lots, I would imagine.
Lots - yes. More than before - almost certainly. As many as they can find people to order - no. The invitation to order one from Porsche (and send them £10k) says that they are constraining supply and that placing an order doesn't assure you a car (in which case you get your £10k back). So lots, I would imagine.

if this is the case i will have one in 4 years time when they are £60kOne of the reasons that earlier GT3's has held their value comparatively well is that they were only produced in very limited numbers (eg less than 170 997.2 GT3 registrations in the UK). BMW said this about the M3 CSL ten years ago - lots of people put down deposits expecting to make a speculative premium if they were "lucky enough" to actual get one. BMW got orders for 522 (AFAIK) so built....522 of them. This left speculators and in turn franchised dealers out in the cold. I sourced one for a friend in July 2004 and he could have waited & had one new & registered on a 54 plate (despite being manufactured in October 2003) with about 10% off. Instead he paid even less for a just registered car with a few hundred miles on it that he could get in and drive straight away.Geneve said:
I think the 991 GT3 has been priced to sell (it's far less than many expected), and it should be an epic road and track car, so Porsche will manage production to just satisfy demand. No doubt the exclusivity mantle will be reserved for the RS models.
I agree, I mean its not that much more than a well specced S really is it? And no matter how badly or not it depreciates, it will be surely be much less than the Carreras?
Is it therefore actually the cheapest 991 ownership proposition?

Seem to remember that GT3 pricing always looked like a very good deal at £10/20k over a reasonably specified C2S. Low depreciation made it a bargain and cheaper to own than an S. Not sure the same will apply this time but it does look like a very good road car.Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
