Thinking of Maserati Coupe (<1 yr old)
Discussion
Thinking of buying a Maser Coupe. I know there has been a facelift (just this month)....saw 90 of them next to the Duomo in Milan where I'm currently based (although I also live in London). I'm thinking of buying a GT to tide me over until the new Lotus Esprit is out.
I'd be buying right hand drive and less than 12 months old to avoid the pre-Ferrari issues. I see depreciation is still a killer compared to Porkers - Am I mad?
What's the must have spec these days on the Coupe? And yes a Tubi would be part of the changes/requirements!

IMHO the facelift doesn't work! - so a 2004 model year is the one to get.
The extras list isn't actally that long and Sat-Nav aside none of it's vital - mostly cosmetic.
A year old one should be yours for around £46-48K dependng on Gearbox /spec. at 3 years old it'll probably be worth about £33-35K (more for a private sale)
I've got a 2002 4200gt Cambio and I love it - it has much more character than any Porker, and there is a real "sense of occasion" whenever you drive it!

Go for it!
Not wanting to stir up a hornets nest but :
If the 3200 is anything to go by a 4 year old 2000 car bought for 60k new is now trading privately in the 30k or less region. Average say 26/27.
I don't see a 4200 retaining 10k over a 3200 over 4 years to be honest, nice though they are.
Anyway, who cares about that, in the end if we wanted a cheap car, we'd buy smarts

Thanks for the replys so far.....obviously read the previous posts on costs of ownership....certainly make you take a big step back!
Is there any spec to really avoid....is manual really acceptable in this car purely for resale(I know some of you have them) but really was it a minus for resale?
In two minds.........

manual doesn't seem to be a minus really from an ownership / drivability point of view certainly.
As for resale, the only guide I ahve is that EVO reckoned an auto was worth about 1k more S/H - but then I figure that is factored into the original cost price anyway. Whether that still holds is not particularly obvious.
Don't get the impression I'm putting you off - I love my 3200 and by all accounts the 4200 owners on here seem to be even happier. Yes it'll cost more than a porsche to own / run, but then it's a lot more 'special'. You pays yer money and takes yer choice.

The 4200 does not have an "auto box" in the true sense of the word (with a torque convertor ) but the 3200 did.
The 4200 has a CambioCorsa option which is a "automised manual" - basically the car controls the clutch for you, and changes gear at the flick of a paddle - but the box itself is identical to the fully manual version.
The Cambio is very very good once you are on the move, but if you do a lot of traffic jam town driving, it is not brilliant and it can't reverse up hills very well ......
re-sale does seem better with the Cambio as it is a "suprise and delight" feature, also it is very F1 and also very "Ferrari" - Most people buy a 4200 as a second car so want the "something different"
My 4200 is my daily driver has tne cambio and is great - however I rarely have to go into busy towns.

Ah Mr Tony but I was talking about a 3 year old car...not a 4 yr old one!
Exint, it's not just the 4200 that doesn't like reversing, I find it really difficult to reverse without the wheels slipping - that's in my 3200.
I should be having a 4200 in a couple of week's time as a courtesy car when mine goes in to have a few bits fixed.
It'll be nice to compare it with mine.

Do you know:
I think I read elsewhere you can't secure child seats in the back, is this the case with 4200's?
Do they still make the silver blue colour or has that ceased, can't work out its name from the charts?
If a car comes with a Maser warranty which is still running (assume they are 2 years) what do you really gain by buying from a dealer? Seems everyone says...'buy dealer only'....

Assume you mean Azzuro Argentina (Sp?)

OK. Warranty on a 1 year car from a dealer will be 12 months. Buying privately with a full Maserati warranty is a good saving over buying from the dealer. Warranty is transferred and you loose no cover at all. It's a great option as far as I can see.
Child seats no problem! - Maserati does not support the ISOFIX system but normal seats do fit (well mine did anyway!)
UK 4200s come with a 3 year warranty so a year old UK sourced model will have 2 years left.
Quite a few different blues - Graypaul have a couple of blue 4200s in at the moment.

A s/h 4200 with Cambiocorsa at less than 1 year old is a bargain. Fantastic car, although it takes a little time to get used to the Cambiocorsa gearbox. Do not expect to go on a test drive and be able to master it - takes around 2-3 weeks to be comfortable, but once you know what you are doing it is brilliant, dropping gear and flooring it is fantastic - forget all that heel and toeing nonsense (sorry to upset the real driving geeks
). Automatic mode is a waste of time - I never use it and is really is only useful if someone else has to drive the car on very temporary basis - do not judge the 4200 based on the Automatic shift. The engine is amazing. Fantastic performance. Fuel economy is terrible- but you pays your money... Do not hesitate.

The new Ferrari 612 has rear ISOFIX so hopefully Maserati will soon. I am waiting to hear from Maserati UK to see if the 05 Coupe has it.
I could not find a forward facing child seat which fitted the back of my 3200 well enough but the 4200 may be different. The front of 3200 was fine though.

I stand corrected!
3200 only came with 1 year
I thought that the first 3200's had a two year warranty and the later ones three years?
What I was saying to clarify is that yes my 2002 came with a 3 year warranty to the guy who bought it, by the time I got my hands on it - only 18 months left - ie as a s/h purchase they didn't extend the warranty (suprisingly!)
