Cooling fuel ? ?

So top of this months upgrades is to try and improve fuel temp , I know that in the peak of summer fuel temps can get pretty high .
So far I have wrapped the fuel tank and fitted a 3" flexi tube from the front passenger side wheel well along the cill and directed at the twin fuel pumps , this should get some air flowing over the pumps to cool them anybody else any ideas , kinda stuck for ideas .

Guessing you didn't take a close look at what was done to my car while it was at the nec the vent down the cill was one off the many mods done to cool fuel tank :-)

Or why not extend the air Con pipe work and make a coil to go around the pumps or fuel pipes

Could you create something similar to a power steering cooler? Maybe in the near side cill?
I imagine output changes with fuel temperature so I'd be careful with actively cooling anything.

I wouldn't recommend running the AC on track, the compressor will love it !

Thanks guys , great input from everyone , paul thanks seems like I'm on the right track , AW heat sinks sounds good any suggestions what to use ?

Why do you want to "improve" fuel temperatures? Do you have a specific problem that occurs?

With the fuel tank mounted in the engine bay and a turbo mounted next to it in concerned that high fuel temps could lead to engine issues in the long term , I'm also concerned that on extended track work high fuel temps could have an effect on performance .
Also the 044 pumps get very noisy when the fuel gets hot and I'm concerned about there long term durability .

It's a Mercedes fuel cooler that l have adapted with -6 fittings & hope to fit in the side pod where you have your gearbox oil cooler.

using it on the tank return?... looks much better than the 1m long units I was looking at putting down the sills.

Whilst you wouldn't want to run it on the track, I would have thought you'd only need to run it in the pits. If the tank is lagged well enough it'll stay cool? After all it won't be in there for long!

I have heard that the pumps can add masses of heat to the fuel. Would look to keep them cool first. Then insulate all fuel lines to and from the rails to prevent heating the fuel form the hot air in the engine bay. You could add a cooler on the return to keeep the temps in the tank down. This should then help the pumps to as the fuel they are pulling will be cooler.

Fuel cooling can only help, we've been fitting commercially available fuel cooling units into our 500+HP cars for years.
Pressurised fuel gets hot, as anything that gets squashed does, the Pump itself will generate a lot of heat which is then transferred to the fuel.

Anything you can do to reduce that can only help.

Cant see that it gets that hot Tux. Not to a problem area anyway.

I take fuel samples direct from cars fuel lines when they are in scrutineering immediately after the race and sometimes it is so hot it would scold you. If they can race like that, I cant see a few hot laps on a track day causing you any problems mate.

Ian, you really can hear the difference in the fuel pump between hot & cold fuel so l assumed that it's not ideal for the engine especially when running ontrack.

It might bugger the pump but not the engine. Whilst I except that with hot fuel you lose density (which may harm performance) this is cancelled out by the reduce viscosity of the fuel. Unless it is boiling away then I really wouldn't worry.
