out with the club on saturday morning. had selected a route and lead for most of it as i knew where i was going but didn't tell anyone else...

after a measly 35 odd miles i bonked. so badly my wife had to come and pick me up. it was shameful and degrading, humiliating and just about as pathetic as it gets.

no change in diet, and always riding lots (6 times a week). road rides usually 40 - 50 miles at an average 17 - 19 mph. lots of century rides achieved. ridden all through winter on my commute (8.5 miles each way with a 10%-er thown in for good measure. perfectly fit and strong.

so what went wrong?

Bonking? Mid ride? Isn't that like table tennis (with smaller balls?).

Did you mean "blow up" i.e. suffer complete exhaustion or boke / blow chunks / vomit?

Could be a mild virus having a go at you. Could be more serious. If it happens again speak to your doc. I had a stinker manflu last weds-sat amd went out for a quick 7 miler yesterday with my 10 year old son and he left me for dead. I nearly boked twice.

Rule 5?

Sometimes it happens. Was it cold / windy? Put it down to an off-day, don't let it worry you.

It happens, The best thing you can do is recover properly. Have a couple of days off, and start off slow again. Dont worry you wont lose any fitness by doing this, infact you will gain benefits.

"They" reckon you should have 1 week after a block of 12 at a lot lower intensity.(Active recovery)
I rode 40 miles on Saturday and then rode 60 on Sunday, and really struggled, I just backed off and made it enjoyable, today having a rest day, and then tomorrow back on my interval training.

Bonking can be a number of things relating to state of mind, over working or training, stress, food not quiet right, hydration etc etc...
