Hi All,

Hope everyone is ok, I have found a venue for my next meet, another great family day out with another exclusive photo opportunity. I have even got premission to organise a hog roast for us on the day. It will also be in the Summer, Hooray I hear you say, so hopefully the weather will be a little warmer.

I now have a question to put to you all. This venue would mean us parking on grass and although they have said that the ground is level and well drained. ( It is in the private grounds) it still means parking on grass and I do not want to continue talks with this venue if it would upset alot of people and put people off of attending I would sooner change the venue.

Racing Green, Brookspeed, Bentley and SuperVettura have said that they would like to join us again and H R Owen and The Supercar Showroom may also join us. I have also spoken to Mark Wootton from McLaren who have said that they would hope to be able to attend too.

All in all it could be another great day for us to enjoy but the question is " Grass or No Grass "scratchchin

Happy to park on the grass, but could be interesting if we have another summer like we did last year.

I work at agricultural exhibitions throughout the year, last year i did more than 120 days of them, almost all on grass.
Simply put- it was hell.
I know last years whether was an anomaly but this is Britain.
Personally, with all the planning involved, i wouldnt optionally chose a venue which is grass.
That said, if the venue has hard surfaces running through the majority of it, where only the parking is on grass and only a few cars need to drive over each patch of grass, then it may be a doable.

Hi All,

Well I have two venues in mind, The Cotswold Wildlife Park or Portsmouth DockYard. One a much nicer family day out in my view and I could arrange a hog roast etc for us to enjoy on the day. but it would mean parking on the grass, it is surrounded by paths and should be ok though, I am told. I am in talks with them and hoping that they will let us in an hour or so before the park opens to the general public for us to have exclusive photos by the Manor House at The wildlife Park without any member of public to get in the way of the shots. They again do not normally allow photos by the Manor. You can then enjoy all of the attractions at the Park.

My second choice is not on grass but again has great photo shots as we would park in the HMS Victory square right by the Ships but we would not be allowed to cater for ourselves although I could probably get a good deal with the price and a cream tea included.

So which do you think would be the better one and I will do my best to get us a good deal and a sort out a great day for us with the Car dealers attending etc.

They can get 150 cars in the port I have been told you would park all around the ships / dockyard and would include everything including the Harbour trip and the house has lots to do for everyone and thought by having a lunch/ hog roast arranged it would help people get to meet up with each other. Think both have pros and cons but both are fairly unique places to go to too.

As I live just outside Portsmouth (And was in the Royal Navy for over 35 years) I am able to comment on the HMS Victory option.

Not only is there HMS Victory, which is a national treasure in it's own right, there is also the attraction of the whole historic dockyard and museum as well as HMS Warrior, the harbour tour which goes past all the current warships of the Royal Navy (I say ALL with tongue in cheek....buts that's another story).

There is also a very large Canteen/Restaurant inside the dockyard and 10 minutes walk away is 'Gunwharf Quays' which is a modern 'Outlet' shopping centre with most of the major stores and plenty of places to eat.

There is a large car park right next to HMS Victory which would provide a great backdrop but I am a bit dubious regarding the 150 car claim.....

Dependent on the date I am happy to help out where I can.... I still have a few contacts in the yard.

My vote would be the dock yard, just have to decide what MG to bring - just bought this one to compliment the MGB Roadster

The Portsmouth dockyard sounds very appealing for a day of boys and big toys.

Hi Mark, did you get this because of going in one on the track day?

You bet, plus if its raining or snowing I can leave the "B" at home. Impetuous aren't I ? But Martin's was a 1800 and very impressive. I saw one at a garage and swopped my day car for it. However.......just had a bill for nearly £1700 to get it up to standard. But possibly the best car MG has ever made.
