Hi guys I,m looking to purchase a cayman s 2006 shortly and was thinking of taking out the Porsche warranty as concerned about the bore scoring issues and other problems that can crop up. My question is if I purchase from an independent non Porsche garage or private sale does the service history of the car have to be full Porsche history? Or can you still take the warranty out if its not full Porsche service history so long as it still been maintained as its intended too?

IIRC, once you have owned the car for 90 days (if bought from a dealer) then you get the 118 point check for £180 and then can get the guarantee....

Worth you first checking that there is nothing non-Porsche on the car - including the battery, even though its not covered by the warranty.

I'd get the 111 point check done before buying. You might need to spend a couple of grand to get he vehicle to qualify.

If it doesn't have a full OPC (Porsche main dealer) service history they will usually insist that you have a major service carried out - if you arrange to do this you may be able to negotiate to get the 111 point check done for free as much of the work is duplicated anyway.

If any work is identified as required when it's inspected it has to be done at the dealer, if they do allow you take it elsewhere they'll charge for re-inspecting.
