So I've put the Aeromax up for sale, and I'll be chopping in my 7 series and going for an everyday usable 997 Turbo gen 1 manual. Just verified that a child seat fits (thanks porsche centre silverstone) though it seems that I'll need a smaller child, or a better fitting seat if I want the seat and child to fit at same time, but given the numerous threads I'm happy it can be done. If anyone bought the porsche seats let me know what they are like.

Got a 2 questions for the owners out there..

1. Pcm2 vs pcm3 - I'm not a sat nav person so if you ignore the nav is there any benefit to the later system?
2. Speedbumps - is the turbo manageable in day to day driving or I going to chop its nose off. Unfortunately where I live they are a fact of life. Not horrible ones but not rumble strips either...

Hope the Aeromax makes a good price, and I should be into a car in a few weeks fingers crossed, looking forward to getting my first porker....

Pcm 2 vs Pcm 3 not sure about the difference, as I have little or no interest on any thing on the dash apart from the rev counter biggrin

Speed bumps are not a problem in the turbo driving

Just buy one they are fantastic !

I have just purchased one and PCM3 was a must. The Nav is ALOT better then PCM2 but you also get USB and iPod connectability. Bluetooth as well if I remember correctly. As I do quite a few long journeys, these were very important for me as my old car had literally everything you could ever need.

Any chance of a picture of the Aeromax? lick

Any thoughts on must have spec items?

OPC vs independent? I like the idea of warranty, but most of these cars seem to be pretty reliable so is going opc for 2 years warranty overly paranoid...

Warranty
My 997.2 Turbo which is only 2 years old and purchased by me in Jan has been into Porsche 6 times! Whole sunroof needs replacing, cruise control broke, iPod not working, now I have coolant pouring all over the place.

Call me unlucky, but every P car I buy from Porsche seems to have loads of problems which would cost a small fortune to repair without warranty. Really should buy private from now on!

Hi Jeremy  would love a CTR2 or an RT12 but I think that I should probably start out with just 500bhp while I get the hang of the engine being in the 'wrong' place wink...

I've got a 996 turbo s cab to compliment the maser spyder. Can't bear to get rid ! You haven't been tempted back to Italians and the gran cabrio?

Warranty! I just bought one and warranty was top of the list. The Mezger lump is reliable, but it's everything else around it that will cause the problems. It's a hugely complicated car, and the warranty is pretty likely to pay for itself...or at the very least give you peace of mind.

PCM2, PCM3 - meh...no doubt that PCM3 is better but its a hell of a premium to pay if you're interested in an early Gen 1.

The most unreliable Porsche that is owned by any of my circle of friends is a 997 turbo gen 1 - its a standing joke whether it will make the end of any day.
Puts me off any potential future purchase.............is it just that there are 2 unlucky guys on PH or are these cars a bit iffy?

Not tempted to run a Grancabrio as a daily just yet... But it would be fun. But I think my journey as a petrol head needs to include some pork, and there will be plenty of time for more Italian metal sometime in the future smile

Never found speed bumps an issue, we have some fairly large ones near us and as long as you keep the speed down they are fine.

Gen 1 turbo manual is a great car, very versatile, quick and as you would expect great build quality/engineering with a fantastic engine. You may miss the rawness of the Aeromax though.

Not interested in audio/nav. Wasn't part of my buying decision.

12 months in, lots of miles, only time it has been to the garage is for some super unleaded! Has been super reliable.

Go buy one in place of the 7 series, but consider keeping the Aeromax if you can

The Aeromax and the Wiesmann (spotted one in the metal at the Zurich Lambo dealer back in '06) are to me the best looking modern autos. Hope that 997 Turbo is worth giving up the Aeromax.

Turbo is fine over speed bumps but if your car has the Aerokit you will need to drive over some of them very s l o w l y.

Appreciate the nice comments on the Aeromax guys.

Right now I drive a 13 year old BMW day to day and keep a spectacular car cooped up - seems a bit crazy.

I try and be pragmatic on cars - its dumb to keep the money tied up when its not appreciating and I'm not getting to use it.

I'm sure I'll have another at some point, and I am sure going to miss it! Its a real personality...

How can you possibly sell that for a pork turbo??
Pls go to fridge. Sit inside for one hour and revert your thinking process.

Thanks for the picture. As to spec, I think that Adaptive sports seats are a must if you intend on using the car for long trips and nice things to have are the short shift, LSD and heated seats (not sure if they are standard on UK spec Turbos).
