RTA this evening
Discussion
Hi all, i was involved in an RTA this evening. I was driving home on a route i often drive. It was on the A35 near Christchurch. it's a very dark stretch of road that goes to 2 lanes for about 500 yards for overtaking. I was in the outside lane overtaking a car when i suddenly see a huge lorry pull out of a lay by right across 3 lanes! i just saw it's amber lights they have on the trailer. I swerved left to avoid hitting the back of the trailer and then slid as i applied the brakes at the same time. i then slid the other way after trying to steer in to the slide and ended up in a ditch luckily avoiding anything hard! It's a Miracle i didn't hit a car or a tree! There is some damage to the front clam where i went in to the ditch.
The lorry didn't stop but came back to the lay-by about 10 minutes later whilst i was on the phone to the police. As i was about to walk over it did the same thing again and pulled across 3 lanes of traffic on a busy dark stretch of road!! I caught a quick glimpse of the side and i think it was some sort of dairy truck. Currently trying to hunt down the company and driver but not having much luck!!
Really don't want to go through the insurance, i have it booked in for a paint touch up anyway so i'm hoping he can just repair the damage. I had to drive the car in to the field and take the farmers gate of the hinges to recover the car. Didn't want to risk damaging anything pulling it out backwards. I drove it home and everything felt fine so that's good. Just looks to be cosmetic. I'll get some photos up tomorrow when it' light. Just really gutted about it but i feel very lucky to be alive!
All this after a month at sea. Great first day back on land!

So sorry to hear of your mis hap, consolation is your OK and your car came off reasonably unscathed, most truck drivers are very responsible but you get the odd rouge, spotted an artic today at the Fishbourne roundabout attempting a u turn just outside the roundabout heading to Fishbourne only to get bogged down on a grass verge and thus blocking the road I guess for some time. (Video stored on Roadhawk)
I had a military low loader, with some sort of digger type machines on it, do exactly this to me a couple of years back, on the A303. To say I s
t myself would be an understatement. If there had been anything in lane 2, life would have got very interesting. I hope you have some luck tracing the vehicle.

If it's the VX, there's a bodywork and spray shop in Liss, Hampshire which do a lot of work for a Guildford based Lotus and VX specialist. They recently repaired my Fathers VX (TubbyNorm) if you want a recommended specialist confident with removal of the cams etc.
Hi, thanks fr the recommendation. I rang Back on Track today who are based in Guildford. I'm pretty sure that's the company you're talking about! Everyone on the VX forum rates them and they said they should be able to repair it fairly easily. Nice to have a specialist do the work. Thanks again.

That's them. They use http://www.whiteroseautomotive.com/ for their body work and spraying quite often.
Thanks, good to see the company doing the work! mgbond said:
Sorry to here about this.
I'm not sure u would be able to claim from the truck unless u have a witness. Ur best bet unfortunately would have been to hit him and then u could have claimed.

I'd rather pay for the damage myself i think. It was fairly high speed so i'd be dead! I'm not sure u would be able to claim from the truck unless u have a witness. Ur best bet unfortunately would have been to hit him and then u could have claimed.
