Frontline MG LE50
Discussion
I think i'm in love.......Just spotted the Frontline MG LE50 on Fifth Gear last night.

With a 215bhp tuned MX5 engine in it, I would think it's rather quick and a load of fun but at £52K it's way too exspensive for me.
But hey, we can all dream

Hi,
I've read a bit about the car but to be honest the pictures don't show the car in a very good light. Why does the drivers door not appear to fit very well and why are the bonnet gaps so big and different both sides. When you are trying to sell a product at a premium price everything has to be 100%. Nowadays there are many more cars to choose from than was the case 50 years ago and first impressions count. You'd have to be brave to spend upwards of £50k on one. Nice colour though.

i was sure i could not be the only one to notice this. this is a major oversight on a 50k car.I've read a bit about the car but to be honest the pictures don't show the car in a very good light. Having seen it in the flesh at MGB50 last September I have to say it is very nice but way, way too expensive
I'd rather have a re-shell MGB roadster with all "new" bits for less than half the price.
It doesn't seem like very good value, does it? Mind you, it does seem to be one of a rare breed of cars (Eagle E-Type, that company that does things to the Jensen Interceptor - anything else?) that blends classic styling and character with modern stuff to improve the driving quality without ruining the car. The MX5 engine is a bit nancy-boy, though. A car like the LE50 needs a big V8.

* BHP Approximately 215
* Torque Approximately 175 lbft

so they want around £50k for it and they cant even be bothered to test it properly or give accurate figures on bhp/torque and 0-60 time...* Torque Approximately 175 lbft
* 0 - 60 mph 5 seconds (Estimate)
* Top speed 160 mph (Estimate)

* Quick steering rack (Optional)
WTF??? standard rack no slip and they have removed the back seat but they still want over 50k for it??? they're more mad than I am.- Limited slip differential (Optional)
- Rear seats (Optional)
IMO it's a real p@#s take.

This. I have seen the car up close; in fact both whilst it was being built and as the finished product. The concept is great but the asking price plus cost of options which should be fitted as standard is rediculous. LBS' suggestion of using one of many available V8's is the way to go. Or even one of the many super V6 engines readily available ala Morgan.I'm just starting my V8 conversion which has 240bhp, a better gearbox, a far better suspension set-up than the LE50, modern electrics & ignition, plus a whole bunch of interesing parts. How much will this cost me? £14K tops and have that glorious V8 orchestra playing out of the tail pipes.
Not wanting to black ball the LE50 as I do think it's a great car, but, not at £50K. Maybe it's time Frontline change their strategy as an MGB will always be an MGB. They're not, and never will be, an early 911, Bristol, Jensen, or breathed upon MKII Jaguar.
the company has never knowingly undersold itself or the products or ideas it has acquired
some customers have found them good to deal with, were as . . .

Hello Nigel...ooops, hope I haven't written anything libellous or detrimental to the LE50. Of course this is just my humble view and the LE50 is, in its own special way, quite a peice of kit; but just not £50k's worth.some customers have found them good to deal with, were as . . .

From a design and production perspective, one can see how any small sports car production facility would need to charge a reasonable figure as production numbers are low, assembled by hand, and effectively made to order; they simply do not have volume component access to enable economies of scale provided by other manufacturers like Morgan and TVR as was. Maybe Frontline have bitten-off more than the market can chew? And I would be intrigued to see the production figures at the end of 2013, where only 50 units were ever planned to be built...and all this post the 50th Anniversary of the 'B.
Anyway, enough of my waffle and onto what a friend has kindly named my MGBeast. Good news today being I've been offered a source of near FOC high grade stainless steel to produce the twin pipe exhausts glued to RV8 manifolds...I'm a very happy chap this evening

Jap engine in a British car? that's just wrong.
How? the japs where the ones who brought back the british sports car with the mx5 ironic that the engine is in a classic british car goes full circle hay.An MGB GT as an everyday is an appealing prospect. If I was doing this I would either use a lightly modded B series engine, about 105 BHP , or put a mildy tuned K series in it, a 1.6 with about 130 BHP. Plenty of options out there for upgrades e.g. Hoyle suspension MX 5 seats Ford type 9 gearbox a/c kits etc etc
You would finish up with a useable low running costs easily maintained fun keeper. I costed this and decided it was bit much to spend, say 18K doing a lot of work myself and buying a shell., when the market doesnt value this car, so I defo wont be buying an LE50.
Also to avoid misunderstandings, V8s are good
