Hi all,

just got my gen 2 carrera s, with spangley new or rather upgraded pcm unit from the earlier gen 1.

on reading the manual and seeing the format logos on the screen, it had DVD down.... so I grabbed a DVD, loaded it in the changer and... it only plays audio back. WTF???

now, the manual does actually state this, having read it. little closer, but still seems loopy to me to not have the video function active. is there anyway this can be activated?

I also noted TV function was mentioned, but this isnt an option on the tuner, so am I right in guessing this is an addition (another one) that is a paid option that wasn't ordered with the previous owner?

cheers

I've the TV tuner in my car (not my spec I hasten to add!), and you still don't get video from DVDs. No way to force it to either that I'm aware of.

ok, cheers for that, looking around on the net I can't see any suggestions about it.

can you add in an auxiliary video input?

Interesting question, I suspect it's either impossible due to how the PCM system is integrated or it would require so much electrical witchery/butchery that's its well over my head!

it looks like there is an AV input box available for 183 quid. but that covers video only, not sound. So the aux input would need to be used in conjunction. All getting a bit messy for a simple design choice to include DVD VIDEO as standard.

at least pcm 3.0 is better than its predecessor!

I've the same car but with the CD/DVD multichanger (how 20th century...) and the manual says, "Depending on the equipment in your vehicle, you can use the function keys of the multi-functional steering wheel to operate the following Porsche communication systems:
– PCM
– Telephone
– CD-Audio, DVD-Audio"

So audio only, even I believe if you've go the tv option.

brilliant, well done Porsche, although I seriously think that steering wheel controls should probably NOT be used to control DVD - imagine scrolling through those chapters whilst driving smile

anyway, who put an advert in my last post??!! biggrin
