Hello all

Just about to replace my OEM satnav with a pioneer avic F20BT that I've just taken out of my other car, and was wondering.....if I replace the OEM unit do I lose all the vehicle data from the in-dash screen ie. range, outside temp, turbo boost, trip counter??
Presumably I will lose the sat nav arrows but but I can live with that for the added convenience of bluetooth phone, ipod integration etc...

Thanks in advance
N

I've just been looking at the Pioneer manual, and it looks like this information will not be available. Although I may be wrong on this.

I don't know what your existing head unit is, but I have the PCM1. Pin 23 on Plug I is the Fuel Consumption Signal (see the pinouts at http://home.no/zxcv/pcm1/). Looking in the Pioneer installation manual, there is no input for this information. There is also no input for the heater information.

Different manufacturers probably use different formats for this info, so I suspect only certain head units will be compatible.

I guess the Kenwood has the necessary inputs.

Could I ask which model? I'm considering doing the same thing. Was the install complex? When I've read about this before, the standard 2*DIN surrounds need some modification

.. My car came with it already done, so I can't tell you how much aggravation it was to do, but I know the amp/sat nav unit had to be changed AS WELL as the head unit, as the MOST connections are optical, all my speakers are changed too, but I've had the covers off a couple looking for a rattle and those connectors are std spade type. The surround to the unit in the dash itself has a bespoke cut piece of black plastic which covers the surrounding area neatly.

I would take it to somewhere who has exp of PCM2 swap outs, it's a common thing to change.
I cant comment on how much hassle it was or the work arounds to get the in dash to work as it should, but mines fine..!

This question comes up once a month.

Though mine was 987, if you have Bose like I did you need to replace the amp and speakers too.

Forgot to add - yes I lost the PCM data from the rev counter display. But I still have distance remaining etc which is fine.

According to page 122 of the AVIC-F930BT, "These calculations are based only on the infor- mation that you provide and not on any data from the vehicle. The fuel mileage displayed is only a reference value, and does not guarantee the fuel mileage displayed can be obtained."

So it appears that it is not actually getting any real information from the car with regard to fuel consumption - only the mpg figures that you enter yourself.

Yes that is correct.

Just for clarification I was referring to losing the PCM info once you take the OEM unit out.

Indeed the Pioneer heaqd unit does not connect to the car's systems and only provides estimates based on some data and uses distance time etc to calculate metrics. It's a gimmick, though I tired it once and after a brisk countryside hoon it displayed the message "Your MPG is poor, you must try harder".
