Grease for Shimano wheel bearings.

Going to take my wheels to bits during the week and naturally I will need some lovely greasy grease to repack the bearings with. Are there any particular good greases for using on an Ultegra wheelset?

I'm assuming that the wrong grease will 'slow' the wheel down?

Not really: over-tightening and/or horrendous overpacking will slow the wheel. I've used thicker/stickier grease in XT and R500 hubs with no ill effects

I have been using this stuff for years and rate it very highly indeed. It is like pizza cheese going on (which is handy as it holds the bearings in place while you put the races back together) and lubricates really well and lasts for ages and ages.

I took my bearings apart at the end of last summer for a quick service to get ready for the winter. After about 4.5k miles there was virtually no sign of wear on the bearings or races.

Yup, quite interesting trying to explain to the missus what the white sticky stuff on my jeans was after 1/2 hour in the garage on my own......

Tube of red grease from Halfords' bike counter does the trick.
