Title says it all really.

Despite having had the prop shaft changed a few months ago, Im still getting an intermittent wobble through the drive train somewhere.

My usual guys think its the valve chest in the gearbox - so whats the financial damage likely to be to change it out?

Thanks

Excuse my mechanical ignorance, this may be completely different to your question but there are a few similar words wink

My 4.5S used to crunch on kickdown mostly at motorway speeds. It was diagnosed as the gearbox valve bodies by my specialist and they recommended a firm in Luton, fortunately I had a Warranty Direct at the time and they agreed the fix - overall cost was £900! (2 years ago)

It's been great since smile

I have been quoted a figure more like £1150 but wanted to see what the general feel was for this type of job!

I don't get a crunchy kickdown, just a 'wobble' when trying to accelerate from low revs!

This was more than a wobble, it felt more like the gearbox and or engine was exiting the car, it was a huge lurch, crunch and engage - not nice but only apparent at higher speed change down.

The figure you have been quoted sounds about right with a little inflation over 2 years?? The firm was recommended by RPM as used for all their gearbox work. I met the main man and he inspired confidence, I'll look it out if you want to know???

It goes without saying that the wheels/tyres are ok?

Hi David,
I had a couple of emails back and forth with a very helpful chap on here about this when trying to diagnose a while ago.

The wheels are boggo standard 19's and the tyres were brand new, balanced and fitted recently.
(The problem existed prior to these being fitted.

When i bought the car it was on 22" pimp rims with elastic band rubber fitted. I downsized for comfort reasons and have been much more happy with the ride since - but the 'wobble' / 'judder' whatever you want to call it - persists rage
