Just watching the evening stv news where they were reporting on a new 'emergency' road for when the A83 gets closed by landslides etc.
The news article says they have resurfaced the old military road and will run a convoy system on it. However the clip they have shown clearly showed the old hillclimb road.

This leads to a few questions, if it is the old hillclimb road I was pretty sure it was privately owned. There was also a group called friends of the rest who were trying to maintain it with hopes to bring back some kind of hillclimb or motorsports.

So anyone know anything about it?

I'm wondering if it is the old hillclimb road ( and going by the clip it looks like it) what does this mean? Has it been bought by the government? Is it still possibly private? Hopefully so, as it would now be an absolutely fantastic hillclimb !
Here is a link to the stv clip

It's still private, that's what's taken so long to do it, the old Rest was done ages ago they're now starting the other bit. They've widened the corners so artics can get round so should be interesting on hillclimbs smile It'll be a convoy system if used.
(but i'd guess if the other road's shut by a landslide any hillclimbs will be suspended)

Thanks for the reply Humper, that's good news its still in private hands.
So can we hope there will be some future events there? That would be fantastic. I've driven up it previously as part of one of the Argyle runs and to do it on tarmac would be great.

An ambition of mine for more years than I can remember, since the Rest and be Thankful was a hillclimb my Dad used to compete at. I do wonder what the RAC MSA will require for a modern day hillclimb to take place though.
