Nights out near Donnington
Discussion
Derby is probably quickest to get to/from. Loads of reasonable hotels a short walk from the city centre (Jurys Inn, Holiday Inn Express are closest I think), which isn't too big to spend all night getting lost in - head for the market place and follow the crowds)
It doesn't have a Hooters though
(although I noticed a couple of new gentlemans clubs on my last walk through.

If it's a Friday or a Saturday the village of Melbourne has some of the best locals in the country. Medium sized village with the most pubs per head in the country (some years ago now and there have been a couple of closures). Food is good (try the thai restaurant next to the White Swan (I opened it about 10 years ago, now in others hands)). The Hotel for live music and a great mix of friendly and odd locals.
I live in Derby, I'd say avoid except the new casino complex which is very good actually.

There are only three 'N's in Donington BTW...
If you stay in Derby itself, the 'Jurys Inn' has a decent car park. Or you could park it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bold_Lane - the most secure car park in the world!

Last time that I was in Melbourne there was a great Curry house, someone had bought the pub and refurbished it and open a Curry House restaurant and it was really good, is it still there ?I live in Derby, I'd say avoid except the new casino complex which is very good actually.
Loughborough... Hmm it's not the most amazing place for a night out,I wouldn't really recommend Loughborough as the place to go for a night before a track day, there plenty of nicer pubs about the place, breedon is just down the road from donington, also sylvain guintolli... The world super bike racer lives in one of the local villages and can sometimes be found down the local
