Brake upgrades
Discussion
Right, I'm not sure if any of you are aware what my car is, I'm a relative newby. It's an integrale 16v, think there is more details in my profile.
At the moment it has single pot calipers with fast road pads and higher spec brake fluid. Now I have just been to a dismantlers, they only dealt in prestige cars, it was horrible three grales, loads of TVR's, Ferraris (including race spec) Astons, new Porsches etc etc.
Anyway, I'm thinking of upgrading my brakes. They have got a set of brembo 4 pots on a special edition integrale EVO, or I could get a set of the Ferrari 4 pots which are also Brembo. Now the ones on the integrale are only £150 for the set! Is it worth getting the Ferrari ones which are a fair bit more? Or do you think the only real difference (as I suspect) is that they have 'Ferrari' written on the side and not 'Brembo'. If this is the case, I think I'll stick with a set of 4 pot Brembos for 150 quid . Can't see them on my car cos she's wearing motorsport alloys, so looks don't matter.
Cheers,
John

Depends on wheel diameters, clearances, brake disc sizes etc, etc.... And how many pistons are they - the Brembos on the EVO may be 6-pot, the Ferrari are almost certainly 4 pot....
Best bet is to stick to something that is most likely to fit with minimal alteration - take the Evo ones and be done. Although you may find that you want the master cylinder(s) as well, to get the pedal "feel" right. Mismatched calipers/master cylinders can play havoc with your stoping ability......

That's a fair point actually. The ones from the evo are definitely 4 pot brembos. But with that being an integrale, they will bolt straight on. Should I take the master cylinder too though? The Ferrari ones are 4 pot but require an adapter. They will fit in my wheels as they are compomotives, designed for good clearance. All as I want is the performance, but need some advice on the best way to get it
Have no idea what those brakes are like, so I have no idea whether they'll fit.
If I was doing it, I'd check the thickness, offset and outset of the calipers to check they line up with and fit the rotor, check the piston area against the master cylinder to ensure the hydraulic leverage is correct, and make sure I kept the relative amount of braking front/rear the same, or fitted a propertioning valve to compensate. Other than that, I'm sure it'll all be fine.

Nothing to do with "snobbishness" John it's just that I imagine you are the first on here to do such a mod, and therefore there is no advice available. SO... why not talk to an Integrale specialist who knows about upgrading brakes on these cars, then explain what you have access to in the "scrappie", get their opinions and if necessary pay them a bit of cash to carry out the work with you supplying the bits? Incidentally do you intend to increase the size of the discs (rotors) if so you will obvoiously need adaptor-brackets either way. Rich...
Is there no internet forum for the Integrale then? There are two good ones for the quattro where an enquiry of this sort would get many replies.
One thing I would say is that you want to be careful when buying "mission-critical" bit like brake calipers from scrap yards. Not saying there's any thing wrong with it (I've done it) but just "be careful".
I'd never be snobby about the Integrale - it's almost as good as a quattro .

Thanks for the replies. It isn't a scrap yard as such, it is a real exotic dismantlers where each car has it's own shelf . As I said, some of the stuff in there is gut wrenching. Anyway, they only sell the stuff that is good, the rest gets thrown away. I think what I'm going to do is sod the Ferrari calipers, get the Brembo 4 pots and buy some new Brembo discs. No adapting kits and no arsing about as they are already on an integrale.
As for the integrale being almost as good as a quattro, although I have massive respect for them, I think you'll find it's the opposite way round

I would speak to someone like Barry Waterhouse (www.evocars.com/homeframe.htm) about your plans.
What he doesn't know about Lancias isn't woth knowing and he's a friendly guy to boot, give him a call.
He helped me out many times when I had my Integrale.

Before I spill the beans, has anyone else got an integrale? Cos I want them three for myself, not having you lot going nicking all the bits :P
