Friend looking at this car later today :

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2013...

Thoughts ? I personally think a manual would be better. Alos nopticed the discrepency in the mileage between the header and the advert itself (60,000 miles -> 66,000 miles !)

Cheers,
Nick

I'm trading a very nice 987 Boxster to this dealer this week, he seems sensibly thorough and experienced when buying stock in but I have no other experience to report yet.

Autotrader use mileage limits for their search criteria, so like we do, he tries to reach a wider audience by making sure his adverts are captured in a search which strictly speaking they should be excluded from - on the basis that a buyer looking for an "up to 60,000 mile" car won't necessarily be put off by one done slightly over this, but way less than many of the cars an "up to 80,000 miles" search will return.

Whatever opinion you have on this practice, the advert is honest in specifying the exact mileage within the description (a lot of dealers will let you find out for yourself when you turn up). Obviously if a 66,000 mile car isn't something you'd consider you can simply skip past the advert, it won't have taken up much of your time, but if you like it and have only found it because it came up in an up to 60k search then be thankful that's how it was listed.

I bought my 996 from Paul, nice house, nice guy, nice car collection too.

Only thing I would bear in mind is getting a 3rd party inspection before buying, My car has had a few maintenance issues that I'd have hoped were covered but I've wound up paying for them myself. If I'd had a proper inspection I'd have driven down the asking price to balance things out, lesson learned.

Definitely get a full inspection, ideally by a good Porsche Independent, someone who regularly services cars would be ideal, as they really know these cars inside out and they are mechanically complex and very expensive to put right!

Buy on condition / history above all else,

but definitely get an inspection, as 27k is a lot of money

I think you could buy a better car for your money.

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...
Same money. only 31,000 miles

http://www.mr911.co.uk/cars/porsche/911/%28996%293...
More money but always worth a bid of 30K 24,000 miles

Haven't seen either car. Just a thought.

Well , looks like he's done the deal subject to an inspection on the car which is being done today.

Thanks to all for you replies/comments , I did try to 'encourage' my mate to view a few more cars first before committing , but he likes this one....So fingers crossed the inspection is good and the car is a good one.

Might just be me, but isn't it missing the aerokit front spoiler? Tbh mine has it and because it is slightly lowered as well it's a nightmare with speed bumps.

It looks like it's there but it's black not body coloured. (which looks better IMO, the body coloured ones take such a beating they always look a little tatty!)
