Afternoon All,

My brother in law is kindly trying to sell my wife's Mini Cooper S (we moved to Singapore), which has had lots of money spent on it since our owenrship.

Are we being un-realistic with our price? The lack of interest would suggest so

Thanks
Rich

Doesn't seem too high given the mods. How long has it been up for and has it been reduced yet? Maybe try knocking £300 off to see if it gains any interest.

Sold mine on Pistonheads in 3 weeks back at end of October. I ended up dropping price from £6795 to £6200 but when i did the calls flew in.

This isn't a criticism of the car but the modifications will limit the buyers that the car appeals to unfortunately.

Agreed, hopefully a like minded petrol head looking for something nippy for the wife will come along (at least that's why I bought a modded one) :-)

Absolutely love that, but sadly my budget can't stretch that far.

It is suprising how little return you get for what a lot of people would/should see as desirable mods.

Hope you manage to find someone soon!

I'd say removing the BOV would be a good start to making it a little easier to sell as they're not to many people's taste. The rest are fairly solid mods that will add to the longevity of use imo.

A good idea, the wife hated it :-)

Money spent on modifications rarely have a positive impact on sale prices, if fact they can often reduce the sale value.
My MX5 is very modified - I bought it back in 2003 for £11k and have spent about £10 on it since then. I did this in the knowledge that I would not see any return for any of the money I spent on it. The only way to make any of that money back is to remove the modifications and sell the car as stock then sell the modifications separately.

This is what I'd do if I was you (and you have the tools etc to remove the mods yourself).

Make sure at least one of the photos, preferably the first, shows the sunroof clearly as that's quite a plus point for some buyers (and they won't be reading the text in detail when browsing through a search results page). There's also the MFSW (cruise), arm-rest and Xenon options that you could make more explicit. Play on the BMW option list (and the BMW CHILI pack has only one L).

Try dropping it to £6495, with 12 months MoT to look more attractive.

Replace the photo of the tax disk for one of the provenance (handbook, bills, etc.); and the squashed driver's side bolster looks awful. An under bonnet pic would be nice.

The mods, as many of the previous comments have said, don't help sell the car (insurance worries); indeed most will look at the follow-up text of all new tyres ("it eats tyres for breakfast") and £2500 in maintenance ("5K a year, I could run a 911 for that") in a negative light. "New intercooler and sports exhaust gives 207bhp" might suffice and then more details if anyone asks to look under the bonnet. It also does not have a full BMW service history (for obvious reasons ... or even raisins according to thick fingers auto correction...), missing full leather, climate, sat-nav, and only 5 months RFL. They all add up to reduce your prospective audience, even on PH.

Might be something to do with this sentence in the ad:

"£2.5k spent in the past 6 months alone on maintenance."

That could read as if it's a money pit. Maybe re-phrase?

Yup, that was the first thought that popped into my head when I read that.
