Samsung Galaxy 16MP

The other half is wanting a compact camera for her birthday and this model in particular caught her eye, probably because of its other abilities. I'm concerned that the quality is not in the same realm as other £350+ compacts and as such I would like the PH opinion on these things.
She isn't a dedicated photographer by any means but I think she is focussing too much on its "instant upload" and social media abilities, and I'm loathed to spend £350 on a gimmick.
What would you buy with a budget of £350 as a gift for a girly girl ( no big bulky black bricks then). Ideally something with wifi/upload but the focus remaining on image quality.
The Ex2F and NX1000 caught my eye, although the EX2F is verging on black,manly and bulky.

Get the Galaxy. She doesn't want amazing image quality, she wants to share snapshots with her friends and family. Making uploading x% harder is not going to win you any brownie points even if it turned her in to a prize winning photo-journalist.
Totally agree. For FaceBook / Twitter etc this camera will take perfectly good photos. It's still a good camera 
This is all very true. I didn't think the galaxy camera would receive such a warm reception in this forum but it seems to be a winner. One big advantage that I can think of is that by having the android capabilities there is a good chance the camera will be in constant use which means the camera will constantly be on hand.
The current compact that she has just sits in a drawer as she forgets to take it places and therefore doesn't use it. Something that is constantly out will surely be used as a camera far more when the opportunity arises.
It will be good for air travel too as she can use it for music/movies.
I'll get the 16MP and let you guys know how we get on.

Hi guys, i thought i should report back on the camera so far.
The camera itself is perfect for what she wanted and i have to admit I've been using it a fair amount too. As i said before the reason for getting an android camera was so it was constantly out, being used for its other abilities (web, music, games) and in doing so it is always at hand when the opportune moment arrives for a photo. This is been its greatest success so far. Another key feature was the instant upload, which is great but also pretty slow.
The camera is more than acceptable for a compact, however night shots are a big let down in auto mode (noise issues). This can be alleviated with manual settings and a bit in-camera editing afterwards. The zoom is incredible for a compact. Either compacts have really come on in the last few years or this is an exception. The modes are pretty decent too and seem to get the settings correct for each scenario, rarely have i managed to get a better shot in manual mode.
Holding the camera itself is ok for me, but a little harder for her with her small hands as it is pretty bulky and having a full size screen doesn't help when it comes to pressing on screen buttons by accident, but you get used to it.
We are just about to head out to the Bahamas and Key West, so I'm hoping there will some decent examples to show you guys. I've also bought her a spare battery as smartphone side of the camera can have the battery flat within 7/8 hours constant use.
