CX bike (through Cyclescheme)

Hi All,

My company will be part of Cyclescheme from March and I am looking to get a CX bike. I will only get more detail next month but I believe I can get a bike up to 1k. Maybe I can get something more but I am limiting myself to a grand. I have expensive taste and dont want to go mental like I usually do.

I was wondering what the best spec bike was I could get for up to £1000.

Some decent looking ones on the Planet X website, especially in the clearance corner section.. They take cyclescheme.co.uk voucher..

Boardman gets some positive reviews on this site, few guys have them. I'm go to recommend a Cannondale CaadX as i'm a big C (as in cannondale) fan.

Are you wanting it to race on, play on the bridleways or commute?

It will be for commuting mainly, but on the weekend for a bit of fun on the bridleways, forested areas around my village, some road use but mostly off-road.

I'm pretty sure the Cotic X "weekday" bike is under a grand and well spec'd, have a look at the Ridley Crossbow too which is also under a grand, you should find a cyclescheme dealer who can order one.

Both will be a sora/tiagra mix but thats pretty much what you get for a grand these days.

I have a 2012 Specialized TriCross Sport (not the disc brake one). I think it's rather splendid and use it for commute mostly with occasional forays into the local country park.

Ok thanks as well for those comments. I did ask my LBS about the Tricross but they said they wouldnt really recommend it for anything serious off-road, so thanks for that though. My commute would be mostly through forested bridleway areas so dont need a speed weapon, just something that can take some punishment.

I will look at the other bikes mentioned and am also looking into the Genesis CdF with Sora but as per an earlier comment you dont really get a big spec for under a grand but thats ok, I have a hardtail for weekend fun with SRAM XO and thats more than enough for me.

I will look at the other suggestions in the meantime

Ridley Crossbow seems a very good spec for under a grand, food for thought.

Sorry, I just made the assumption that your commute was on road!! My bad. No, if you're getting it for mostly off then TriCross Sport probably not the answer. Great all rounder, but if you're not using it "all round" then might not be the answer!!

No worries at all, thanks for the help though, always good to get different views and ideas, so many bikes to choose from, a real minefield
