My car insurance policy offers me a 10% discount for being a paid up member of a "car club".

My initial thought was to join PCGB but at £70 per annum plus a £10 joining fee it seems bloody expensive! Not quite sure how it's justifiable at that rate but perhaps that's a topic for another thread - and yes I'm aware of the discount available at OPC's etc.

So what do you think it's worth joining - TIPEC (I think £40)? Or perhaps another non-specific make club? If PH's had a paid membership option I'd join that!

That £70 includes the one off £10 so renewal is cheaper.

There are plenty of club haters on here, but if you are prepared to join in then you will get your money's worth.

For example this year, you could go to Silverstone Classic and get BOGOFF on the tickets, same for Donnington Classic, get other discouts and have some fun, thus getting your money back.

I wouldn't join any club for the insurance discounts as I am not convinced you actually get a better deal than shopping around.

Apologies, you are correct, £70 inclusive of £10 joining fee.

I'm based in South Wales. Would you say that PCGB is as relevant in my locality? Is the region well supported?

If you are already a member of BoXa.net that will get you a discount at Sky Insurance, A-Plan and few others that I can't remember, and be sure not to accept the first offer

I'm with Competition Car Insurance and I'm quite happy with them.

Do PCGB still offer the Certificate of Authenticity to members?

I don't know, but you could always contact the guy that runs it on r14@porscheclubgb.com and see what he has to say. The Region makes all the difference to the experience. Having said that I think only about 5-10% of the whole membership actually bother to join in do anything which does make you wonder rolleyes

Yes they do ..... for free .... (although technically it is Porsche who offer the certificate for free IF you are a member of the club)

They do. But you can hook it from your OPC for free if you've bought the vehicle new from them. I think the price of the certificate is the same price as membership to PCGB.

As soon as I get my membership details through I'll be ordering a C of A. Thanks for the link.

The 2 year service on my Spyder is due in May. Called Cardiff OPC for a cost and the service plus brake fluid change should be £630. PCGB membership reduced this to £520! Bargain!

OP is confusing owners clubs with car clubs. If they simply want membership of a car club then Id join a car club, not an owners or enthusiasts club. Most motorsport orientated car clubs membership fees are around £20 per year!

This doesn't need reopening - I've joined PCGB. I did so with consideration to the fact that there would be other member benefits in doing so beyond a discount on my car insurance.

The point of the follow up mail was simply to highlight the saving offered by my OPC for PCGB membership.
