I`m thinking of getting a 2006 Boxster 3.2S, realistically what should I budget for running costs? e.g. whats a typical OPC major and minor service cost (would be doing less than 10k miles per year, cars I`ve seen appear to get services every 24 months), for something of this age should there be any other big bills (other than the obvious fuel, tax, tyre, insurance etc).

Cheers, Andy

Not sure on full running costs but something to bear in mind is water damage. The one I've just bought had several hundred quid spent every year on re-laying carpets and stuff because water gets clogged up in the seals. Easily avoided by keeping the car in a garage but if you don't have one might need to be wary of that?

What kind of mileage has it done and is it in good shape?

I would say approximately £1,000 per annum excluding the other usual charges, some years may be less others more. A full set of tyres is over £1,000 and from recollection a reasonable OPC service is £600, bugger service closer to £1,000.

I had mine serviced recently had to have to rear tyres replaced 2 and extended warranty for 12 months which set me back over £2k, although that was the first major cost it had cost me in 2 years of ownership (from new so a newer model that what you are looking at)

Independent specialist may be a way to bring down the costs for you on servicing, there are a fair few good ones around

Budget for approx £1500 a year on average for service costs and you shouldn't be far off the mark.

IMO a trusted indy is the way to go if possible.

Water pumps, RMS and rads are likely weak spots.

What is a reasonable discount to expect on these prices? They automatically seem to give 10%.

My car is 8 years old this time, and the OPC prices are a bit high for a car of that age/value.

The car has always been serviced at the same OPC and has still done less than 20k miles. I quite like the idea of keeping it serviced at the same place, but realise that this will have no impact on the value now and I plan to keep it long term anyway.
