OPC Experience
Discussion
Took a friend of mine to an OPC in Wilmslow near Manchester yesterday to look at a 2005 Boxster in Met Black.
The car was very good indeed and my friend went for a test drive etc while I looked around the showrooms. As this was his first ever venture into the world of Porsche I wanted him to be really sure as he is going from a Diesel Seat to the Boxster.
Anyway the staff were great and let him take his time and indeed re look at the car several more times on his own with me along to point out any issues (I've owned a number of 911's plus a Boxster so have a little knowledge). Car was just great with no discernible problems and it looked like a 3 year old car to be honest.
After a few more conversations and cuppas he took the plunge and bought it then and there (well I say then and there - we had been at the OPC for 3hrs).
How OPC appear to have changed, and for the better. We were treated really well and the sales guys, in particular Gavin, being great and rather patient too lol.
We pick the car up next week and there is another small dream fulfilled for a great bloke who always works really hard but never thought that he would own a Porsche - result I recon.

PC Bournemouth are exactly the same. A more approachable and friendly bunch would be hard to imagine. And all I have is an old nail of a 3.2 Carrera - and absolutely no intention of replacing it.
I 2nd that, OPC Bournemouth are very good indeed, and no, I don't work for them Cayman -Black. cayman-black said:
So you work for OPC Wilmslow?
No mate retired years ago - I just thought that it would make a nice change that someone was happy to say that they had a good experience dealing with an OPC.There is always one that has to find a negative or be contentious!
Just to get the converstion really negative - I'm even thinking (only thinking mind you) of buying a rather nice 997 GT3 from them too!

I recent times there have been lots of positive OPC comments. Of course, there will be occasional negative comments, some perhaps justified, but I would imagine most OPCs are doing their very best to provide a first class service, and my own experience has always been excellent.

I'm not surprised your mate had a good experience - sales are really slow for them at the moment, certainly in my local OPC and I would expect that to be replicated everywhere else (apart from London, of course!).
Well I don't know about that - while I was at the dealership 3 cars (2 brand new I think) were picked up by new owners. I do not know if that was good or bad but it was on a Friday afternoon!Cheers

It was great reading the OP and then rather sad to read your opinion of it.
I really think you come across as a fool.
Best of luck to the OPs mate and his new toy.
Thanks man - I loved owning all of my Porsche's over the years and my mate can't wait till next Friday when he picks it up.I really think you come across as a fool.
Best of luck to the OPs mate and his new toy.
The shame is I will have to drive it back from the dealership for him - I know it's tough but someone has to do it lol.
Cheers

Thumbs up for Porsche Newcastle from me. I went in last year for the first time and the salesman was friendly and helpful spending a great deal of time with me. Ordered a Boxster for a Xmas present for my wife and he went out if his way to keep it a surprise, meaning communication was more difficult and he had to do things slightly differently.
Great experience though, the rest of the staff are friendly and helpful too.

I'd a similarly good experience with both OPCs (Glasgow and Edinburgh) that I frequented when choosing a car. The problems have arisen since taking delivery, with a disappointing 'process-bound' attitude to fixing a minor problem that's become a big problem simply because of the way it was dealt with. That said, they're now making every effort to put that right but I fear that there's always going to be a tension between the people who want to get the job done and self-defeating corporate processes that allow little or nothing in the way of personal judgement and discretion. FWIW, BMW are worse - much worse.
Just like in a lot of walks of life you are royalty if you are about to spend big money, its when you need to go back for after service or have problems you will truly find out how good they are.
Unfortunately, I have had a couple of issues over quoted prices and actual price charged in the last few months so am hoping to avoid in the future.
Just make sure you have any quote in writing and that they have included VAT and/or anything else they are likely to add on.

I've had enough bad experiences with my local OPC to not want to purchase a car from them. I would say that the experiences however are limited to the attitudes of the sales force and that the servicing / parts and reception teams have been nothing but friendly and courteous.
Having worked in many companies where I have had to deal directly with sales teams and aggressive selling is often the norm, I personally feel it is more of an issue with some people in that line of work as opposed to a reflection upon the entire local OPC.
So I'll be damned if they get my commission!
