996TT to 997TT... worth it?
Discussion
So I'm getting itchy feet. My 996TT has nearly 90k on it now, and needs some paint, refurb'd wheels and a bit of tidy up (and maybe a wheel bearing or two) to make it mint.
I could flog it and change... I've looked at BMW's (M3, M5, M6, 650, you name it)... and the odd Jag (XKR) even Astons, and nothing comes close.
For me, the 996TT does it all - 4 seats (I've got two little ones), roof rack for the bikes, daily driver reliability, sensible mpg (26 for me).
So... do I spent a few quid on mine, or do I spend 25k-ish on "upgrading" to a 997TT?
Anyone done it? Worth it? Remember it's my daily, I've got a leaky Trevor for fun... Thoughts?

I'd have a test drive in the 997tt if you haven't already, then make up your mind whether the difference is worth £25K of your hard-earned. Plus, of course, you know the history of yours and how it's been treated during your ownership. I'm still in the honeymoon period with my 996tt - so it'd be an easy decision for me! Interested to know your comparisons if you do try the 997tt.
When I bought my 996TT in the summer this was a consideration for me. I needed a DD as well because my kids are quite grown up and don't easily fit in the back of a 911 and the difference in price bought me a very nice A5. My other consideration was the 997TT still had some way to fall price wise and I could scratch that itch another time

I had the same thoughts when I bought my 996 turbo. It was 3.5 years ago, so 997 turbos were still at the £65k+ mark and I couldn't stomach the thought of £30-40k depreciation in the coming years.Even now, I'm not remotely tempted. Although I don't doubt the 997 turbo does some things better than it's elder sister, and the interior is apparently a nicer place to be - my (mapped) 996 turbo is still an amazing car, and I can't see anything that a 997 turbo gives me that I "want".
Plus - if I wanted to blow £20-25k - I can think of other things I'd rather spend it on than moving from 996 to 997 turbo.
For me, the only reason to move to a 997T would be to try a PDK gearbox, and those have a long way to fall just yet (plus don't have the Mezger engine, though that might cease to be such an issue if such a car was actually in my reach).
Roof rack for bikes, eh? How many can you get on it, and how stable do they feel?
I take the simpler, lower capacity route: roof down, bike in the back, roof up again...

Wait for the 991 triple turbo.
And circa £125K!
If you want to be financially prudent, keep the 996T, but keep it as mint as possible, which you'll need to even if you sell. Value might take a hit once you go through 100k mls though.
I think the 997T is a worthwhile step up, and the Gen2 even more so, but as always with these things, lots more money

The difference in price is more 15K and yes it's worth it. I personally missed the 996 Turbo as bought the 997 but my son has bought a 997 Turbo after owning 996 Turbo for many years, would he go back to the 996 NO WAY !
The 997 Turbo is quicker ( by a big margin) its ride is much better it's more refined and its headlights are not , well we all know the 996 headlights look f
king s
te .
OK boys I am prepared for flaming

Absolutely love my 996T and still well in the honeymoon period so there are no thoughts of moving on. I will say i'm so impressed with it the natural next step will be to look at a 997T when the time comes. I like the fried egg headlights but I do marginally prefer the 997's classic round shape. Oddly the same cannot be said of the rear of the 997, the 996 just looks so right (infact i'd say its my favourite porsche ass ever)

Can I ask, what sort of power do these 997T's put out standard/mapped? and do they weigh much more? My standard x50 feels devastatingly quick as it is!
