McLaren F1.....Spotted !!
Discussion
Sunday 23rd June. Approx 10:40 on the M25, just approaching the A3113 junction. Travelling anti clock towards M40. Look in mirror. Do not believe eyes. A mirage in blue ? No way. An F1. On the road.
Only the second I've ever seen on the road (first was the silver K* MCL car in Chessington).
Fabulous. What a superb car.

Saw one on the m25 on the 12th June. It was dark grey and my dad pulled up next to it to have a closer look. Surprisingly enough the driver must have been in his early 20's. He must have borrowed daddy's car for the day....
Or perhaps it's his. I know plenty of young people with decent cars, they just pulled their fingers out of their arseholes a made something of themselves rather than making snide remarks and getting all jealous.

Top stuff Steve.

You can buy an ex-race F1 from Classic Car Collection in Switzland, heres the link: www.carclassic.com
If you've got about 1 million euros spare that is.
Hopefully I'll get the lottery up tonight!!!!!

Was at GFOS on Saturday, kipping in the back of my car after a late night, when a revving noise woke me up, I peer out of the side window to see an F! pulling in next to me, XP3, which turned out to be the Experimental Prototype 3, 003 off the 'production line' 680bhp, more than the standard version, running on a K plate. Fantastic car!
Anyway I dropped back off to sleep, but was continually disturned by hordes of rubber neckers, oggling the beautiful lines of the car.
BUT, in the auction marquee on Friday there was an XJ220 up for sale, and I think it is a better looking car, and a snip at £82k! (I think that's what it went for) Still, you cold have had an 8 year old F1 car for £45k!!

Surely a 575bhp Ultima for 50k is going to annoy a Mac F1 or XJ220 for much less money. However, 0-100 in 6.3 not 6.1, so it is a bit on the slow side
kitcar
thats a bit harsh isn't it!?! I mean the Ultima is a great car and kit cars dont all have too have big gaps in the body work ill fitting interiors. I presnt exhibit A, the Caterham R500. Nice car, you can build it yourself, have never seen one get thrashed on a trackday yet despite all manner of more expensive things present. I rest my case. Whilst a kit car CAN be a dog, it isnt really fair to paint them all with the same brush.
In effect, the McLaren F1 is a kitcar as well. Both were assembled by hand by a very small, dedicated team from a vast range of components (some which are unique, others which are common to other cars - the F1 has Citoren ZX door mirrors!).
The difference is that one has been made absolutely without cost, in reference to research, development and materials used in construction, whilst the other uses old tech to the same end (you can get 1000 bhp out of a push rod Chevy V8 if you want to put twin turbos on it, and it won't cost you a pair of M3 engines!).
In terms of prestige, even road presence, yes, the Ultima is a cheap kitcar in comparison to a very prestigious, very expensive component vehicle!!!!
