Best road trip in Britain?

Purely out of interest, what would you say is the best road trip in Britain?
Spain. Forget anywhere here. Just when you finally get an empty strech of road, there will be a nice scamera van parked up on the safest stretch of road in the UK, ready to put points on your licence.

And they do have coppers in Spain just as capable of liberating your dosh from your wallet.
Scotland is great, IOM great, neither terribly accessible form the South. Wales as good as Scotland if a little less extensive. Head for Snowdonia and enjoy

To be honest, I think traffic density is more of a problem in the UK. Often the A-roads are too clogged to be driven enthusiastically or too straight to be of interest (in the south east anyway). I rarely see speed traps on the sort of little-used twisty B-roads you can actually have fun on.

What he says, did a good chunk of these a couple of years back and only wished I had researched it more. Isle of Skye is also worth a lap (early morning is best).http://www.stevecarter.com/picaday/roads.htm

For me heading, ideally roof down, to Cornwall for spring/summer camping trips (only proviso being not during daylight hours whilst the schools are out for summer), using the A30 for its entire length
I quite often drop down to the A30 if the traffic is bad on the A303. Not sure I'd rank it with Snowdonia or the Scottish Highlands, but buzzing along the country lanes with the roof down is indeed more pleasant than spending five hours staring at the never ending procession of caravans on the A303.Hi
I think I would find it hard to choose. October 2011 - I went to Scotland for a holiday. The scenery was flawless and I do not know what I did - I took a wrong turning - but I drove on a B road above Loch Ness (other side of the A82). Fortunate mistake cos it was just sublime.
Last year we had a holiday in France and stopped off at various places on the way back home. The drive across country up to the Cotswolds proved pleasantly twisty! We then drove along a B road in the from Cheltenham to Stratford.
Much as I like Wales - I tend to avoid as they appear to have little vans at the interesting bits!

The B road on the wrong side of Loch Ness is the B862. It's the route I normally take when travelling from Inverness down the Great Glen. Much quieter, and the scenery is far better. Top tip is to follow it from Ft Augustus for the first few miles then turn left to Foyers and drop down to the lochside. For those that are adventurous there is a spectacular road that leads up a series of hairpin bends from Inverfarigaig. The junction is tricky to spot and road is signed 'not suitable for caravans'. It's also not suitable for any vehicles with poor ground clearance but is a hidden gem.

Known locally as 'The Corkscrew'.http://goo.gl/maps/lQE39 Google streetview car seems to have gone along it. And it doesn't look suitable for high vehicles going by the number of times the camera is in the trees.
