What is the view on Stamp duty land tax when properties are exchanged rather than sold?

House A worth 300k, transfered to sellers of house B 600k, 300k difference made up by buyers of B ("sellers" of A").

What if sellers of a & B agree to drop 100k off each house's asking price?

SDLT is due on transfer. As part of the form filling, you have to state the value and you pay tax on that. I think (could be wrong IANAL) that it requires an reasonably realistic assessment of value.

You can only get SDLT relief on a part exchange if one party is a house builder or property trader
