BB30 creaks.

Has anyone experienced a creak on their BB30 equiped bike? Did a relube solve the problem?

Boardman MTBs suffered a lot with this and mine creaked badly the day i bought it from Halfords. When I took it back they were well aware of the issue and the instructions from Boardman was to relube. However Halfords damaged the bike in doing so, meaning i ended up getting a replacement bike which didn't creak. So I can't tell you for sure that the lube would have fixed it!

I'd convert them to HT11 if it were mine.

Mine creaked in my supersix after a few muddy cross races, pulled the crank out, bearing felt rough, pair of tools from ChainReactionCycles genuine FSA £12ish, knocked out old bearing, pushed in new one, job done, no more noise.

I stripped the bottom bracket and attempted to clean the bearings but I ended up with a bowl full of ball bearings so I ordered a new set from CRC. That said I spent a couple of hours the following day putting the bearing back together so I now have a spare ready when it happens again.

Mine makes a bit of noise every now and then but I've not really had much chance to diagnose if it's the BB30 or the arm or something else. What's the best way, or is it even possible to lubricate them or is it a case that they need to be periodically stripped down?

This is on a 2010 CAAD9 if that makes any difference.

No way to really lubricate without stripping down but its a really simple job as long as you don't make the same mistake I did. Simply remove crank arms then use the BB30 removal tool and a rubber mallet to get them out. Once out put in a bowl or something and remove the dirt covers with a pin. Clean and re-grease and then put back together.

Only tricky bit is to make sure the bearing is level when you start to hammer it back in using the insertion tool.

I've found ofter a creaking bottom bracket is actually loose chain ring bolts.
I normally start with undoing and lubing these up before re tightening. Then if its still creaking, strip the bottom bracket and re lube!

Better still M12 studding from a local hardware store, couple of big nuts and bolts and wind them in, nice and gentle and no risk of smacking your frame with a hammer.
