what is a must for resale? 987 Boxster
Discussion
Be gentle with a newby forumers......
I'm looking for a 987 Boxster, with a budget of approx £25-30K
What are the 'must haves' for a car like this please?
Is the PDK a worthwhile option? i haven't had flappy paddles before, but like the thought of them (yes, i will go and drive both before i make my decision PDK vs Manual)
I'm migrating from a series 1 elise with 175BHP, just don't ue it with the Mecano roof.....
Thanks in advance

Don't get into buying a car based on resale...dealers will tell you that you " need " this or that ..then come resale...bingo ! It makes little or no difference . Buy the car you will be driving for YOU and enjoy..unless you have access to a crystal ball and can be sure what options will be required by the next person. ....waits for someone to say exactly the opposite.
PDK really splits opinion so you're right there - defo drive both (and watch out for tiptronic cars, as some in your budget might be tip, not PDK).
After that there are a few things that are worth looking at:
Stereo
Standard is crap, but the Bose upgrade is pretty crap - probably worth having though and both my 987s have had it.
PCM (Sat Nav)
A lot of people will expect cars to have this and, come resale, people will devalue your car without it - it's crap though and £200 TomTom much much better.
Seats
Sports seats are a must I'd say, and there are those who swear by the buckets - though normally only in Spyders or GT series cars. The extended leather makes the cabin quite a bit nicer though and is popular here.
Wheels
19s look better, 18s ride better - some say (me included) the best bet is get 19s and PASM (adaptive suspension)
PSE
Porsce Sports Exhaust - everybody thinks this is brilliant, and it costs a bomb to retro-fit (there are much cheaper alternatives, but they void official Porsche warranties). Very rare, but great to find
Air-Con
Standard air-con, not climate, is standard
Sports Shift
Again, like all gear issues, very much a marmite thing - makes the shift shorter and stiffer - I love it - the wife doesn't.
Got that?

consise, to the point and just what i needed.
Pleasure - all just my opinions, but think they mirror the majority on here.
Post up any cars you're looking at and somebody here will gladly tear them to pieces for you
You thinking about buying from an OPC or Indie or private? Should be plenty of choice in your budget.
And for the sake of demonstration, I have a Cayman S (Gen.1), sports seats, sports wheels, sports gear shift, PCM 2.1, Bose, 19" GT-Sport rims, PASM and cruise control.
Oh, and the final thing to look for - you might well get a Gen.2 car at that price (so different lights) and, crucially, the DFI 3.4 - which does away with some of the common problems. If you can afford a Gen.2, get a Gen.2.
Oh, and get a white one. They're faster.

I was looking at an gen 2.....
such as this:
Funny you should say white is faster

or
http://www.beckevans.co.uk/used-porsche-boxster-fo...
or
http://www.cridfords.co.uk/ - second boxster down the list....
Both of those are only 2.9, I was really looking for a 3.4S
http://www.alexanderdavid.co.uk/8444/stock.htm
but i don't really want black or silver...

Trev offering sage words as usual there.
In terms of the cars/dealers you talk about, Cridfords usually receive a slightly cool reception here. Couldn't comment on the others, but think carefully about what an OPC can offer in terms of security with the warranty (two years) - I forget the exact price, but you're looking at something like 1.5k - 2k for a 2 yr official warranty, and often, when you factor that in, it makes Porsche dealers fairly competitive.
Apart from that RSJ and 911 Virgin are usually well thought of (though RSJ don't seem to have any Boxs in at the mo). Do your research - it pays off, and there are plenty of cars out there. This, for example, floats my boat:
http://ucl.porsche.de/ucl/plsql/uk/clients.show_ca... (seats aren't ideal)

I'll second that - I bought a 2011 987S Gen 2 last year from an OPC, within your budget, with a 2+ year warranty. I was not interested in spec from a "resale" viewpoint, but had a simple "minimum equipment list" (Leather interior, reversing sensors and a wind deflector!), and anything extra was a bonus.
I had looked at cars earlier from traders, such as Becks, and although their cars were priced well, they only give a 3 month / £1000 warranty; buying from the OPC is far better in this price bracket for long-term peace-of mind.
So just buy what you like, and enjoy!

I buy with resale in mind, so can be picky
Better option cars are easier to sell as are the main colours.
If you are loaded you can drive what you like, but I think about resale sadly and will not buy stuff which would not sell.
Ie blue leather, or even red leather limited selling options.
PCM is less important on older cars as only PCM 3 is any good but if buying 2009 onwards i would want PCM
you use your iPhone these days, , Tom Tom is so yesterday lol.
Also you can barter non PCM cars down in price like dealers do :-)
Hi spec cars sell straight away vs low spec cars at the same price, likewise so does black leather inside vs blue or tan leather.
Add on PSE, nice wheels, sports seats and you will sell your car straight away come resale time.
Plus every one likes, heated seats, xenons, climate, cruise control, and full leather.

I don't think it matters too much as long as you get the right deal upfront.
Beige leather and non-PCM will reduce your potential market when it is time to sell and therefore lower the price you will get, but as long as you factor that into the price you pay you will not have lost anything.
Cars that aren't in the resale-friendly silver/black colour combination and are missing a few of the options that the 'market' sees as important are often a bargain to buy, so only worth discounting them if they are something that you personally could not live with.
The other factor is how long you are planning to keep the car. If you are going to keep it for a while, I think it will matter less anyway as people are more likely to buy on condition when the cars get to sub-£10k and be a bit less picky about options.
