Tandem hit and run

Just saw this on the news. A couple died in a hit and run accident. There's not many details yet but the driver's handed himself in. Quite shocking!!

Just down the road from my work. Comment on the news 'nothing like this has ever happened around here before'.. I must be imagining the regular occurences on my commute then. Although perhaps it refers to the rumours that the driver was deliberately targeting people, that would be slightly more unusal.

Already heard one comment suggesting it was probably the cyclists fault this morning.

when I heard it was a hit and run but the driver fled the scene on foot rather than in the car, I thought it was stolen car but that appears not to be the case. I know the road fairly well and it wouldnt strike me as particularly dangerous but I guess there could be any number of reasons why it happened. Very sad, particularly as I saw a couple on a tandem earlier in the day.

More info has come out, it was apparently travelling at speed and then failed to stop for police, it was then out of sight when it struck a car and the cyclists

I think the news report said a male and female have been arrested, so it may be down to witnesses who can describe the driver

Makes me sick.

All those people driving with no licence or insurance "because it cost's more than the car innit".

I wonder what proportion of those with bans continue to drive - it's another penalty that seems to be flouted with depressing regularity.

Meanwhile on another thread on PH, people are frothing at the mouth because there isn't a comulsory registration and licencing scheme for cyclists - oblivious to the fact that it's flouted by millions of drivers.

I was watching a Traf Pol fly-on-the-window documentary the other day: plod stops a Chinese bloke with no licence or insurance. Wife in the car, kid in the back. Car impounded, you're walking. Three hours later stops the same guy - he's paid the fine, got the car, and continued his journey in flagrant disregard. Car impounded again, you're walking. Comment at the end "the driver recovered his car and has still not applied for a licence."
