I'm going on a day trip to Calais soon... it was booked on a bit of a whim, just to give the car a good run out really. Also, as I'll be there for around 10hrs, I'll probably take a run out to either Boulogne or Bruges.

Now, I'm not a smoker/drinker, and so the hypermarkets don't really interest me too much.

What I'd like to do is bring back some tasty stuff that's hard to get and/or expensive in the UK.

Can anyone recommend some good food shops where I can pick up some nice foodstuffs (cheese, cooked/cured meats, etc)? And can anyone recommend interesting delicacies, must-buys, etc. which I should be looking for?

I would have liked to get some proper baguettes, but they really need to be eaten same day to be any good. frown

Unless it's gone considerably downhill since I last visited - the Auchan near Coquelles has always been a favourite for groceries over booze, with decent enough deli sections for the types of food you mention in your OP.

If you aren't on a schedule, and have a car, I'd head up to St. Omer and visit the central square, even better on market day.
