Winter tyres and wheels 993 to 996
Discussion
I'm not sure about whether they'll fit over the brakes but shouldn't be a problem.. However, the offset on 993s is different to 964s and 996s (which are interchangeable AFAIK) so for the rear at least you'll probably need spacers. I found this out when I put standard 993 16" Cup wheels on a 964 and they rubbed the inside of the wheelarches.

As long as the 993 was a narrow body then the offsets are compatible. However, the 996 was never offered with 16" wheels. IIRC, the 986 Boxster S had the same brakes as a Carrera and a little googling indicates that 16" will not clear the brakes on that. If my memory is correct (cross checking part specs appears to imply that it is) then the answer would notionally be no I am afraid.
That said - the spare saver spare is a 16" rim, so it is possible that some styles of wheel might just clear them, though they may need spacers and certainly aren't recommended by Porsche.
