Marzocchi Atom 80s?

I'm looking at getting a pair of these from a mate's old bike to put on my hybrid build. The fork outers are scratched to bits (which, tbh, would happen anyway given the places my bike gets left leaning against!) and they have a really weird disc mounting like so:


However, they work perfectly, are a lot better than my old Suntour XCT's I was going to use and one of my spare disc calipers seems to fit ok, so I am willing to go ahead with the purchase but how much should I offer him? He wants 30 quid, is that fair?

Sounds fair to me if they work, what else will you get for £30? Looks like a perfectly normal disk brake mount to me, but then I run a pair of Marzocchie Z1's from 1999.
13+ years of reliable fork that have out lived 2 bikes and still work really well.

Hi guys, I've been playing with the forks but cant seem to make head or tail of the adjusters on legs:



I'm presuming one is preload and one is rebound, but which is which? The forks are brilliantly smooth and supple but playing with the knobs seems to have no effect on how they behave! there also doesnt appear to be much resistance to turning them - should it be like this or is this a sign they arent actually connected to the springs inside the forks?

The big blue turny bits are spring preload and the middle turny bit on the right hand leg is IIRC rebound damping adjustment.

Ah thanks! Why does it have 2 preloads, normally they only have 1?

There is (at least on the Z1's) a coil spring in each leg, so you can adjust the preload in both legs.
I guess new fangled forks use air and witchcraft, I never wind the preload down myself.
