Folk's,

This may or may not be an 'ideal' job, But not having done anything like this before. I have been 'invited' to a local multi car brand, franchise sales assessment event on the 5th of Feb. Can anyone give me an insight as to what to expect !!!
My background has been 22 years in law enforcment, the only 'sales' pitch I have made is for the number of years inside I can get you.

No help here, but I misread that three times, and each time was dirtier than the last.

Speckled hen,

It would surprise you how many of the people I have dealt with over the years will try and 'broker' a deal over how much time they will do and we have not even got to charging them yet.

At some point you will usually be asked to sell an item to a panel by yourself demonstrating the benefits and features plus retail price and wholesale price. As a rule of thumb if a toy, say a yoyo, costs £1 to you, you will sell for £2 to the wholesaler which will give them a £4.99 RRP. So start at what you think it should sell for retail , halve it to give you a rough wholesale price, then you can discount off that for volume.

Toy - £9.99 RRP = wholesale £4.99. 1000 units less 10% = 4.49 5000 units 15% and so on.

If you get through all that they may invite you for a one to one (or however many of them there), chat/interview. By this time they will have already decided whether they are going to offer you a job or not.

All companies will do it differently. It is not all about gift of the gab, just common sense and the ability to see the bigger picture and express yourself coherently.

Good luck smile

Burriana,

Thanks for that, just the type of info I need. Thought it would be a mix bag of things to do, will have to work at being to dog in the first stages.

I applied for a 'sales' and 'Marketing' role when i was in uni

went for three bloody interviews with a top dealership

it was described as 'very well paid'

got down to the last four and then about a month later

I bumped into the guy that got it, he was 10 years older than me, pharmacist looking a career change

he told me he quite after a month as the 'sales and marketing role'

was actually £6.19 an hour dogs body who spent 6 hours a day down at the tax office

and the remainder taking st from all the other no qualification, big ego salesmen

i work in car sales and was employed through the sort of day mentioned and it was very similar to what burriana described.

one thing to mention is that the assesment day had several spies amongst the applicants who were monitoring your casual convos between assesments. so watch what you say to others!

Baked Bean,

Thanks for that, I have been looking at the sales man's thread, interesting reading. Sounds like long hours - nothing new there. And it takes time to get into the swing of things and so commision starts to come in.
