Having just spend a very happy, but all to short TVR ownership, I now have to come back down to earth and some more realistic budget motoring!

I previously owned a '91 V-Spec Eunos which I thoroughly enjoyed, so I'm now considering the possiblilty of re-joining the MX-5 brigade.

My question to the Jap Chat Forum is this:

Would my budget (£7k max) be best spent on buying the newest car possible, or buy an older car with money to spare for upgrades and enhancements?

I am particularly drawn to the possibility of turbo/super-charging if the budget allows.

I'm a fan of the Mk1 so I'd say go for that, especially with regards to having money left over for mods, go for a late Mk1 1.8iS, top spec, 130bhp, will be a lot cheaper than an early Mk2 which is only what you would get for 7k

Or get a nice MRT and sod the turbo conversion 'cos you'll already have it!

The MX5 is more fun to drive, but the MR2T is a lot faster

For 7k you could buy a tubby 5 and have a couple of grand change for "tweeks" . www.autolinkuk.co.uk, sometimes has them in stock or you can chat to them about your requirements.

...but for £3000 you could pick up an early '90 1.6 and another £4k on an FM2 kit. Bingo, 220hp within the budget

I'm well happy with my late MkI, which I paid £7k on the nail for. It's a Berkley special edition. Only thing I'm not totally keen on is the lowered suspension, which makes it a bit harsh and prone to speed bump damage.

I do fancy a supercharger kit, though...
