Relocation Scotland to Surrey

Just looking for some background info to help me on my way. Have a great potential job offer, which will mean relocating from rural west scotland to Surrey - near Egham. Obviously it is a very different world down there (I am originally from England but have been in Scotland for the last ten years).
Its a good job with a good package - I will have a disposable of about £30k after housing costs - more obviously if the wife gets a job.
I just have a niggling doubt that it might be too much of a culture shock - we have no traffic here, no noise, no crime etc etc. - I assume that's not the case in Surrey?
Will the money be enough? (we are not big social spenders). Easy for wife to find work? (background in healthcare and also business admin)
Anyone done anything similar? Am I mad to consider it? Am I mad NOT to consider it?

No doubt stating the bleeding obvious, but the house prices will be the biggest shock.
Crime figures can be checked on-line, although I think Egham is a nice place to live. I used to go there quite often to walk along the Thames.
Traffic can be bad at rush hour, but that is the same anywhere in the south east.
Heathrow is nearby, but from what I can remember the planes were not that intrusive.
And depending where you live in Egham the M25 can be next door to you.
And, Ferrari HQ is based in Egham, so you do get to see a number of them driving about on test drives

I moved down from NW UK (still South by your current standards) and find it hard to imagine moving back. Favourite thing about the area is the amount of accessible green space compared to other parts of the country.Heathrow is nearby, but from what I can remember the planes were not that intrusive.
Yes, traffic can be a nightmare and driving any time near school run / rush is not fun. Having a convenient public transport option (preferably train) is desirable, or being within easy cycle / walking distance better still.
If you intend to live close to work, Egham is VERY close to Heathrow. I'd recommend checking out the Westerly departures map http://www.heathrowairport.com/noise/noise-in-your... - which will be about 8 or 9 in 10 days on average. Westerly arrivals are not so common (approx 1 in 10 days). Planes are so low that the noise is quite localised; being 100m away can make a huge difference.
