Ideal for someone wanting to get into a 993 on a budget?
Discussion
I know it would need work as a running restoration, but this 911 seems a good un at the price it's up for.

If on a tight budget for the initial cost of buying into air-cooled 911s, I think its a lot of car. I would also be not so worried about hidden rust (and cost) as I would an earlier model 911..... yet.
Good service history and serviced often it seems, and known to Northway for at least 10 years. I've used Northway for servicing in the past and came away impressed.
No connection to this car by the way.

209,000 miles! At least it could used everyday without worrying about reducing the value of the car.
However it the suspension creaks, the gearbox and engine feel a bit __, there is a rust problem then it could easily cost £10k to put right and you buy a nice C2/C4 with 60-80k miles at £22k.
For £12k I'd just run it until something fails or do a track day conversion as advertised. On the track day car, a 996 for £10k would be quicker.

Hmmmmm, I see where your both coming from, but I guess I look at it from a different angle.
I have come across and know personaly a couple of only reasonable mileage 993s that cost quite a bit to put right that cost their owners a lot to purchase in the first place.
My thoughts were that if it needs work and its a keeper, at least you know what work has been done and to what standard. I appreciate you may have to spend 10K on her (though you may not have too) but if its a keeper and can be done over time, does that really matter?
Personally in other words, is it such a bad thing to purchase a high mileage well serviced car, that needs some tlc at such a low price, than a lower mileage infrequently used or serviced for 10 - 12K more, that may still need work.
I guess it partly comes down to choice, finances and a bit of luck.

I have just "invested" 8k into an otherwise mint 993 cabrio (with only 35k miles on the clock). Some cosmetic issues, new wishbones, new set of tyres and some new seals and a big service) It all adds up very quickly and it will cost the same whether you start with a low mileage car or this one. The only difference is that with a low mileage one it is an investment and with this one it would probably be money down the drain.
Either you leave it as it is and use it until it falls apart or you go for a lower mileage one where additional money spent will not be lost.

Hi hornbaek,
Very little of an £8k spend would add anything onto the value of either I'd guess.
If yours is a top condition, top price car it's price will remain there for a while but will probably go up one day.
The car above will never drop much less than it is now either and may in many years go up too.
I'd take a punt on that 993 as a user, as long as an engine check pointed towards another couple of years service.
I'm with you wozy. Straight, no history 993 in c2 manual coupe guise for £12k. Nowt wrong with that.
