I'm debating whether to go for one of two cars:-

1) Ex-demo, 6000 miles, May 2012 Turbo PDK in Basalt Black for about £83k
2) 1 Private owner 10.5k miles, May 2011 Turbo S in Basalt Black for about £87k

What are your thoughts on the ceramic brakes? Is it worth paying more for the S?

Thanks

The 'S' outruns pretty much anything on the road, especially if you want to put a slight map on it.

I would go for the 'S' but ensure the seller puts an extension to the porsche warranty before you buy. (If it is about to expire)

S owner here. The brakes are superb in feel and stopping power but you can get a dead moment on the pedal when splashing through standing water.

The brakes on my S are worse than my other cars (including carbon brakes on a 458) by a decent margin in these conditions. Also, the steel brakes on a previous Carrera S didn't suffer the same problem.

Sensational stopping power at other times though.

My PCCBs aren't any better or worse through standing water than any other car I've driven.

The PCCB brakes are very good and usually plenty of feel ... except on a cold and wet motorway with little braking. Then they have no feel for a heart wrenching, bullock clenching second before normal service is resumed yikes

PCCBs also means little or no brake dust, thus keeping the wheels cleaner for longer!

In terms of turbo v turbo s. At the prices quoted, given every else is equal, I would go for the turbo s, since its usually got around £20+k of extra kit and a continuous 700NM torque rather than for a few seconds - but where to use it is the question! scratchchin

The exhaust noise on the turbo s is noticeably louder on sport plus mode but still needs an OEM exhaust to be any where near a GT2 sound http://www.europipe.be/europipe_porsche_exhausts_v...

Handling wise the PTV means you can boot it mid corner, and to a point, it grips and goes!

BTW number of 997.2 Turbo V Turbo S in the uk are low and about the same http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q... ... but you will still lose around £10k/pa until it hits about £40-£50k .... eeek!

Correct. If steels or ceramics have been drenched, a dab of the pedal will restore normal operations. Of course, used steels retain more heat, so the water may evaporate more quickly. But, in every other scenario the pccbs are superb.

The 'S' is likely to retain more value in the longer term, as it will always be seen as the 'flagship' model.

The S is the one to have, more power from factory is always good. PCCB and Centre lock something to think about in long run. Also most S have sport seat which if you're a fatty is not comfortable imo. As always mostly comes down to which is the better condition car if equal then S.

I would buy based on options and condition.

I would not base the decision on ceramic brakes, I like my ceramics but Mhh is right about the certain conditions resulting in dead pedal.

What options does car #1 and #2 have, are they both from OPC ?

Both OPC. Only difference is the 2 tone leather, adaptive sports seats, power hike and dynamic cornering lights, ceramics......

"free" day at Silverstone when you buy a new one. Always good to use someone else's launch control..
