Does over 100 not usually mean they try and jail you?

No... though it's often a ban. I got caught at a similar speed in 2005 (100 in a 70) and got 6 points and £250 fine. It really depends on circumstances and previous convictions. I had no previous and it was a completely empty dry, clear sunny day - duel carriageway. The only two cars for miles were me and the camera van. Court was therefore lenient.

is that an offence to go that slowly???

Depends on the court. If the Sheriff court, possibly best to avoid one Sheriff in particular!

Normally 4-6 points and a big fine, not normally a ban............

Will be in the JP Court that is located in the Sheriff Court building.Unless he is a "Totter" he should end up with 5 points and a £400 fine.
Paul, which Sheriff are you thinking of? Sheriff Barr has retired and Sheriff Fletcher is now in Perth.

Got caught doing 116 on the bike. Nice dry quiet sunday night end of July.

12month and 450 fine.

Should have taken lube to court. :-(

In all these cases it is best to take Legal advice from the outset. It may make little difference in the end, but it can do.

One should always remember that the crown bring a case because they believe they have the evidence to prove it. Therefore finding a loophole or getting an acquittal is a result! In particular in some JP courts where ' not guilty' isn't often a known verdict!

On the same stretch, I was caught at 105.4mph. Unmarked car was doing 135mph to catch me. Charged with dangerous driving. Pled not guilty. I had a good solicitor, letter from my vicar wink etc, ended up with charge reduced to careless. £350 fine and 8 points.
It was 13 years ago now and I think they are definitely stricter.

My brother was caught on the stretch of road between Dundee and Perth at 104.5mph in his 1.6 A3. The officer joked that he must have been winding it up since Aberdeen. Brother thought the joviality of the office would lead to some leniency. A 3 month ban and £450 fine later and his expectations were realigned.

100+ in a 60 is a huge difference to 100 in a 70 (ban wise)

For us solicitors it ususlly means double the fine that the public get!

Back in 89 i got done for 102 on the old A74, the Sheriff said i should know better and doubled the fine!

69mph in what turned out to be a poorly signposted road work limited 50 where the only lights came from the double flash!

3 points and 60 quid!

Got spotted when i had the bike years ago. Unmarked car at top of slip road near the old Glasgow zoo. I was heading towards London Road. I didn't wait to see what they wanted.
Caught on the M74 about 15 years ago. Passed an unmarked car at 98.8mph. I think i got 4pts and £60-£80 fine. I thought it was a mistake and paid it the same day.
