Anyone know where/whether I can might find a 6 month lease of some interesting (911, cayman, boxster) pork. I'm probably heading to the US for a year or two around June/July so don't want the hassle of buying and selling but want something interesting to blat over to Wales in, and the odd continental jaunt.

Thanks in advance
Pep

Would it be a hassle buying and selling at an OPC? Even with the savage depreciation, surely this would still be cheaper than leasing?

yes
In a deal I was involved with a lady rented a Gallardo for a day, which was quoted at £3000. She liked it though and kept it a week eek I commented then that it would've been cheaper to buy it from and sell it back to a dealer.

I was thinking the same but was hoping to pay maybe £600 a month plus maybe £1k up front rather than move a chunk of money from savings and depressingly put less back in in 6 months time...

Think you've highlighted that it's rather a mugs game - much better to get something older and a bit more interesting, but then there's the long term storage need to take care of.

Secretly looking forward to paying a visit to the Urban Outlaw chap at some point (even though he speaks in clichés).

£600/month x 6 won't even cover the dealer margin if you bought and sold on the same day without doing any miles, so it's a woeful underestimation of the cost of using a car like this for 6 months.

If you don't need it every day then why not look at a super car club of some kind?

Lease a Porsche for 6 months for about £4600? No chance! I reckon it would be triple that.

Yeah maybe you're right. I'm not looking for something 'supercar' precious - rather something that's good for a few long weekends and when the mood takes, a quick blast out in the country. I suspect you're right on budget considerations.

Maybe i'll just buy something then.

To be fair it was all organised last minute. It was her son's birthday the next day and she'd not organised anything. Starting at about 4pm between myself and a business associate we organised 2 Gallardos to rent (first one was cheaper but she had too many points on her licence so it was a no-go), for delivery early the next day so she could drive her son to Farnborough to get in their plane (her PA dealt with that bit), fly to Manchester, have a limo take them to Three Sisters circuit where he, at 13 years old, was able to drive 3 different supercars around the track (R8, 360, Gallardo - he might have had a go in a 911 Turbo too but I'm not sure, I didn't attend).

The track experience cost less than a day's rental in the Lambo, but the whole day must have been close to 5 figures, even before the extra days she had the car.

Why not buy a £6k 944 turbo you will more or less get your money back failing that a 996 C2 for £10k or a 997 for £20k

Leasing something like you plan will cost an utter fortune

Hahahaha and that's with a discount!!

Yeah I reckon i'll take some cash out and buy something, maybe 50:50 on finance. Cayman R sounds perfect for that kind of setup.

So what pork would you choose for circa £40k if you knew you were going to sell it in 6 months?

944 would be a hoot, and probably quite nice to be in something arguably a bit less precious than a boxfresh Cayman.

911 997.1 c2s would fit the bill?

+1
My money would go on a turbo 996 for low depreciation. Or 997 turbo / 6gt3 if you are talking 40k.

Good shout. I think you could well end up selling it in six months for way way less of a hit of what it would cost to lease anything interesting.

I quite fancy trying some turbo pork. I've never been a fan of turbos, but have always loved (but only recently been able to afford) the way Porsche engineer their cars. Maybe a 996 or 997 turbo as suggested.

Will get a test drive booked methinks.

I would ring one of the better indies who have something you like and see if you can tie a deal up both ends of the 6 months, or failing that something you've fancied drving but not owning for any length of time and wouls be happy selling through ebay i.e guarteend sale in one week. Perhaps a 968 CS or tinkered with 944 might fit the bill

Lease is the most common way of having in car overthere.

not sure if there would be many gayman or cocksters out there however 911 or panny fair few around.

can be done for zero down and maybe $1.5k a month.
