Canons mk1 is very susceptible to being knocked out of whack by a small tap.

Yep...My first "expensive camera" ever was my Nikon D40X fitted with the 18-200 VR lens... Back in about 2007/8.
I had taken the plunge and blown the best part of £1000 on those two items, when 7 months in to my ownership the camera fell off the back of a pick up truck onto solid Tarmac with a sickeningly solid noise.
I was absolutely horrified!
On inspection though apart from a slight scuff on a bit of the plastic barrel of the lens there was absolutely no damage and everything worked!
I sold the D40X years ago but the 18-200 still works perfect to this day..
Very lucky!

Aye , the barrel is robust but ALL the optical adjustments arfe done on the large front element and this gets out of whack by even light taps, the washers on the focal helicoid are weak and break too etc . Checkout lensrentals blog on it. The new one is much more robust.I was riding a Segway in Budapest last year and got a bit carried away......
Crash, bang, wallop and me, the Segway and my 5D MKII + 24-70 2.8 ended up in the floor.
Aside from the filter being broken it appears to be OK - I was deliberately not looking at it for a while because I expected it to be in bits
