Not me of course, but if a friend of mine, well err someone I only vaguely know wanted to get a number plate or two made up legally sized but with last years font, ie the B without the tags anyone got any idea where he could get some made.

He's searched on the web and asked the usual (Halfords) suspects with no joy.

Cheers,
JSG.

There's an old fashioned motor-car accessory shop over the road from us (the sort of shop where if you ask for a diaphragm for a Stromberg carburettor they ask which type you want). They kept a stock of the old "wide" font. I just had a set made up for the TR. They'll do the plastic raised letters on the aluminum plate too, if you want. Email me what you want and I'll sort it out. £4.50 each.

And if you do it tonight I'll see if I can bring them with me to Castle Coombe on Saturday, so you can pass them on to your acquaintance.

I didn't think there was a problem with getting old-style (i.e. pre-Sept '01) plates made up with the old font; it's certainly not illegal to have them on your car.

When I got my (51 reg) Elise last Nov, I bought a private plate for it shortly afterwards - old, letter prefix, format. Went into Halfords to get new plates, and the chap asked if I wanted old or new font (since the reg no. itself was old enough to qualify for the old font, even though the car wasn't).

That's interesting - then I could have my D12 DHW in old style font then?

I though it went on the age of the car?
Eg, if you got a private plate issued pre-'72(?) and put it on a new car I'm sure you couldn't have silver on black.

www.info-signs.co.uk Just made plates to my spec. Just snail mailed them size, font and number. They don't take credit cards though so get a price first and include cheque.

Thanks for all your help, many of the web based companies seemed a bit unhelpful and couldn't do the B as err my friend wanted - could do fancy max p scrpts though.

I the end I, err he found a shop in Slough that made them up quite happily. So now the silly number can be put on errr his car.

Cheers,
JSG.
