Best place to advertise camera & lenses?

My Dad's got his old 500D plus a couple of lenses to sell...he's asked me where the best place to advertise them is.

I don't think he trusts eBay that much from a vendor's perspective, and he's not convinced about the classifieds on AVForums (think he's currently being scammed by someone on there...waiting for it all to pan-out, hope he's wrong).

So, those two aside, where's good? I notice you've got to pay to advertise on PH now...but are the non-motoring classifieds that active?!?

I thought private ads were free - have they changed it? Not noted for their footfall though; personally I use eBay.

If he doesn't trust anyone he'd better take it to a dealer and get half price in cash.

I think your dad could post agree ad for camera stuff?
Though personally, I'd be moe inclined to buy from a "seasoned" PHer.
(I'll also point out some time served PHers have had problems placing ads, in which case you will need to contact one of the techie types)

Gumtree - even if it is owned by eBay.
Talk Photography forum, although 2 month delay and minimum post count required (25) before access is granted.
Commission sale at a "local" London Camera Exchange store?
Or put it on ebay, then deal via Paypal directly, with reduced fee (3.4 vs 5 % ) and no worries about ebay preventing his withdrawal of the funds until the buyer gets round to providing feedback, etc.

Im a fan of Talk Photography for gear sales, bought all my gear from there.

You may even be able to find a local punter and avoid postage aggro.

Good calls re: gumtree and paypal direct...will bear those in mind myself.
