While I'm about to swap the crappy worn out Sachs shocks for adjustable Konis, I was wondering if lowering the car was worth being done.
I only know that I will need shorter and stiffer springs at the front - no, no springs at the rear at all

Mixing and matching springs and shocks is not a good idea. You should look to purchase a complete package that is designed to complement each other. By running lower springs you completely change the stress that is place on the shocks. My original shocks were completely ruined by inappropriate springs. Although it will take time for this damage to occur the handling will be very jittery as the dampers will have very little room to do their job. Not pleasant. There are lots of recommended packages out there just make sure you do the research first. Rennlist has lots of posts on this subject (at least within the 964 forum).
Friend of me replaced the shocks only, not doing any lowering at all; it drives perfectly, doesn't wear out any other item...and it's a convertible!
I know I will be fitting adjustable Konis as they won't alter anything at all (at least in the softest setting), maybe not lowering the car; just wondered what it's worth.
For sure I won't go for the full M030 conversion (bigger sway bars, etc): another friend who had done it has ruined the chassis

dmsims may be best placed to help - he is more technical re 944 suspension than me.
All I know is that lowering looks good but can twat up the handling and practicality, unless done sensibly and with a full geometry check afterwards.
I would also say that my MO30 944 Turbo was an absolute liability in the wet, despite handling like a demon in the dry. Modding the suspension could change the character of the car and maybe make it less enjoyable to drive for most of the time, and only a little bit more enjoyable some of the time. If you see what I mean.
