When the S goes

Bit quiet at work today so browsing the classifieds, and thinking some way ahead (hopefully), I guess one day my old bones aren't going to like clambering into the S.
So what would replace it ? a Z4, all the bells and whistles but lacking "character" (waits for Normans response).
Or how about one of these, I quite like the looks..... clicky.... No racing car but reasonably nippy, interior looks a bit plasticy but its got a V6!
On a scale of 1 to 10 do they have any "street cred" ?

Hey Mike, less of the negativity 
! I am past 65 and my 'old' bones still manage the TVR fine....work on keeping the old body fitting the TVR rather than finding a new car to fit the old body! (Seem to remember Top Gear didnt rate the Crossbow very highly?) Why not a Jag X type, most of them are driven by people who are past it! Or does that comment earn me a

This is a great question to pose Mike. Genius !!
To get to the answer I think you need to tell us what the key ingredients of the S are that you'd like to retain in your "easier to live with" replacement.
I'm guessing it is some of the following:-
Engine/exhaust sound
Steering feel
Britishness
Rarity
Speed/handling
Fun factor
Head turning/likeability
Looks/Styling
Here's a few thought starters
Original Mini Cooper (all that Motorsport heritage, great fun, British and appreciating too)
Previous shape XKR - cheap, luxurious and very comfortable and deceptively fast.
Land Rover NAS spec. If you can find one you get the iconic looks with a V8 soundtrack. And it's like a meccano set really !!!
Talbot Sunbeam Lotus. I had a friend who had one. Totally mad car. On a journey from Birmingham to Stratford we never got higher than 3rd gear. Same sort of TVR madness to it !
PS - can you leave me your S in your will (I can't believe no one has asked yet?)

My S isn't going quite yet though - but having just completed a petrol cradle replacement and now contemplating a trailing arm refurb, I'm soooo tempted! Roll on summer!
I'm surprised no-ones suggested the obvious... An S5... Or as TVR called it , a Tamora...
That would be my choice if I were to "upgrade" from an S (instead of having to be rid of it as in my case
)
Sounds like you have some fun test drives ahead of you though

Chap at the golf club just sold his Boxster and bought a 350z soft top , it looks fantastic and you don't see many about , he is very tall and said he couldn't get in the chim he tried .
S2000 is the best of the bunch, but what could you do to make the interior more habitable?
If you want a cruiser, grp with steel chassis and a Ford V6 how about a Scimitar GTC? or a Gte with a Webasto roof. Go for an early se5 and it would be tax free - just thinking of making your pension go further!
